I've also been looking at the Smith and Wesson M&P Compact 9mm.
Keep in mind the M&Pc is not nearly as compact/slender as the Kahr PM9 or P9.If you are considering a gun the size of the M&P9c, check out the Glock 19, Springfield XDM and my favorite the H&K p2000sk (with LEM Trigger)
At the end of the day test everything you like and don't let the salesman try to fit you with something you do not like based on what he likes or "the in thing". Also, do not fall into the debate of which is better -.40, 9mm or .45 ...or which has the best OSS. Buy the largest caliber that you can shoot accurately and feel most comfortable with. Period!
