He is a great self marketing person and I like him. But one thing that has always bugged me is this....On his show, various interviews and posts, he has mentioned how in he knew nothing about SEO, SEM, conferences, API's, YPN, affiliate stuff, hosting, storefronts, even blogs (although he has backdated posts written in present tense from before he later said he thought about a blog) and so on. So he wasn't doing much until that conference, etc. He goes to SES San Jose August 8-11, 2005. That famous Adsense check is dated Sept 27th. Google pays for the previous month. So he goes home and implements stuff he learned and makes that amount in 20 days from the 12th to the 31st? Even if you did PPC with thousands of keywords, it takes time to get the words, ads and the general ball rolling. You could spend 111k and make 112k or lose money but the check would still be high. So the time period, check, comments and story just don't completely add up. But it sure got attention to make other things happen.
