Firstly, a big thanks to everyone in this thread. There's enough information and inspiration to keep me going for a long while. Hell, thanks for WF period. I'm not a huge forum person, and joining up has been one of the best decisions I've made.

Excuse me a moment while I dislodge my nose from the forum's collective colon...
So. After lurking, I've decided to participate in this. I could really use some suggestions/pointers, etc. I'm going to be as "full disclosure" as possible. Aequitas' posts were a huge help in getting me started. Actually, the post on his blog he mentioned about
keyword research was monumental. So, taking the information from there, here's what I did:
- Stared blankly at SEO Book's Keyword Suggestion Tool for a while, then started tossing in keywords as ideas came and went. I repeated the process I'm going to describe below a few times.
- I put in the word "bridges." It seemed obscure-ish yet common (if that makes any sense at all), and looked through the results. "Brooklyn bridge at night" was in there. It had around 5k total searches, with 3k or so from Google.
- I was interested, so I Googled the string as well as allinurl and allintitle. Here's the results:
- String: 1.1 million results
- allinurl: 1,720 results
- allintitle: 1,340 results
- Ok. So now I went and checked the competition on the term. None of them were main pages. Links to the pages ranged from 38 to 557 (wikipedia - not at the #1, for a change).
- Quick note: SEO Quake makes checking the competition a snap.
- So at this point I figured screw it, I'll make a site. If it flops, whatever, I learned.
- So I grabbed a domain, built a site, and now it's live: brooklynbridgeatnight.com.
I'd really dig it if you guys wouldn't mind pointing out any flaws in my research process and/or checking out the page. It's monetized by adsense and an allposters aff program.
So hopefully I'm in the right direction, but if not, you're encouraged to slap me around.
Thanks again.
