Not in the affiliate marketing game no.
I started a web hosting company a long time ago and at the time I was told I would fail at it. That company become popular and successful and I sold it for some nice money from the sale.
The same holds true for affiliates and blogs. If you stick at it and keep your head level and are prepared to put in the effort and the work, there is no reason why you can't do become successful at it too.
