He got it through his connections and (obviously) his former president father.
He's just dumb enough that the far right knew they could use him as a pawn for their political agenda.
So that being said, what better than to not only have a republican president but to have one dumb enough to do whatever you say with no real ideology of his own except "ranchin is good" and that he's an evangelical Christian?
