Most people are at first, but I learned the basics of reading in less than a month. I could read pretty fluently in 3 months.
Thai is a much easier language than English. The language is written exactly how the word sounds, with a few exceptions. Silent letters are generally marked, as well. None of that dumb shit that English tries to fuck you over with.
