Shadow of the Hegemon. I think that's the first book since the original Harry Potter that I just put down and seriously thought about using as fire tinder.

Douglas Adams'
Dirk Gently series is great too. Not quite as bizarre as Hitch Hikers' got, but there's some awesome stuff in there about the way other people work.
I wish he'd written more
