If you've already got some domains, work backwards. That is, try to figure out what programs would work for those domains and build mini sites or LPs around them. There are plenty of people here that promote all kinds of things, so irregardless of what you've got, chances are that someone can help.
If you're not already tied down, then definitely go with something that you've got an interest in, and preferably for something that you're always going "I wish I could find a bloody site that's got X on it!". Guaranteed, you're not the only person thinking that, so you're likely to get a good corner on the market.
Finally, as a programmer, you'll have a natural edge over a lot of other people because you'll be able to script the stuff you think you need, as opposed to wallowing in ignorance, or paying through the nose for something to do it for you.
Make friends with XMCP and Deliguy. Those guys really know their shit in respects to that kind of stuff.
