Hi Pingo,
Johns Chows title was how he
followed 5000 targeted users in 5 days. This will follow your target audience, and the better you present your twitter account, (background colors, avatars etc.. ) , the more followers you will get. When a follow request is made, they will look at your account, and based on if they think you are Spam or not, follow you. If you have 3 followers, and following 200 , chances are they wont follow you. Automate, and stay under the radar so you keep your followers. The more new people that sign up to twitter, the more audiences to reach. Just think about it as having a lot of contacts, and if you present yourself right, you can build up credibility and promote your product. You probably won't have much success just spamming offers, but treat it like you would an email auto responder, gain credibility, test some different niches, and you'll be surprised how much traffic you can get from here I'm sure. It could be also great way to gain your credibility and readers on your own blog/site or even company's site.
