I must read far too much science fiction because everything currently being pushed by technology companies seems so cliche to me. I want someone to work out how to store information in the charge differences of atomic particles. Then we would come full circle as computation and storage devices.
Now there's a nice idea for a sci-fi book: the trials and tribulations of humanity, an enslaved organic computational device for the artificial intelligence of the future. Take The Matrix and stir in some information network hyperbole. Throw in a plot twist where the artificial intelligence is actually god incarnate (controversy always sells books) and then round it off with the potential demise of humanity, ending with a witty Darwin quote. Don't kill us off though... you might want to milk a sequel (although prequels are so much cooler).
If you are wondering WTF I am on the answer is caffeine. Caffeine and 17 hours straight of content writing to be precise.
