Yahoo searches grew faster than Google's in October

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Yahoo Inc.'s Internet search traffic grew faster than that of its larger rival Google Inc. in October, although Google's share of the market remained more than twice that of Yahoo, according to a report from the research firm Nielsen/NetRatings. properties rose 30% from a year earlier to 1.46 billion, giving the company a 23.9% share of the market, the report said.

49.6% of all searches.

Ask.com unit saw its search traffic jump 25%, although it accounted for just 2.8% of the market. Microsoft Corp.'s (

MSN unit was the only one of the top five search providers to see its traffic fall, dropping 8% from a year earlier. MSN's search market share in October was 8.8%, according the report released Monday.
