If you believe that the universe created itself, it still created itself from something - from matter and energy that already existed. If you believe that God created the universe, then God already existed. In either case, either the matter and energy have no beginning, or God has no beginning. It just exists, and always has. Whichever one you believe.

Man can spend forever trying to intellectualize it but there will never be an answer to the question "Where did it all begin?" because something has always existed.
