I totally agree. I am shady as shit. Iframed offers, my own PPI, my own take on "host & post", flogs and farticles that you would not dare do... and I am very well off for it. Much better off that with my whitehat efforts. I do have some whitehat businesses that earn me just as much, but that has been a lot of time and hard work SERP/SEO-wise.
I use BH to build funds for WH projects. But I have to say, MOST $XX,XXX-$XXX,XXXX a day marketers use BH tactics. The flog is not new. 150 years ago people were using fake testimonials in print. Vincent James made his 70 million dollars from magazine flogs. Advertorials have been around for a hundred years. I'm sure someone told me that AS made his 6 figure days from scaling flogs. Jesse Willms bought his Lambo with flogs
(Interlude: As much as I respect a 20-odd year old banking so hard so young and so forthrightly... dude! Your name was out there from the very beginning. Fuck, you got sued by Microsoft/Symantec for your OEM software biz and still didn't learn to hide in the shadows. You used your own name in the LP video when you copied/stole Wu-Yi Tea! Crazy. With a bit of planning and protection, you would'nt have had W5 chasing your ass across the car park. I admire your fortitude but laugh at your inability to protect yourself when it could have been all so simple. Still, your young and you can move. Not sure exactly how the numerous lawsuits your facing affect your ability to scarper! LOL)
I am careful as shit. Anon domains, hosting, accounts, payment, logless VPNs, straw men, VCCs, offshore foundations owning trusts owning IBCs, offshore staff and partners in non-extradition countries, fall guys, IBCs setup in counties you haven't even heard off... fuck, I feel like I'm Chinese sometimes. A rich Chinaman.
The bottom line, whether running BH or WH traffic, is does it convert for the advertiser? That is the only question I care about, tbh. It doesn't help me running some shady crap only for me to be nulled by an advertiser and the regular chat with an AM concerning the validity of my traffic. Fuck that. I can make too much money to waste my time being questioned about my techniques, so I make my shady shit PAYOFF for the client. It's too easy not too.
