We need a thread to show methods of increasing our "quality score" for the googlebot so we can get good bids on our keywords. I've screwed around with different templates with the same keywords and have had completely different prices for my keywords. Some of these things have already been talked about, but it would be cool if we could get everything consolidated to one thread.

So far I've found a couple of things that have affected the pricing of my keywords for adwords. Please correct me or add to this list so we can figure out how to get the best price for what we pay for.

1) Template - either design your own or find some template that isn't used frequently. This will help everything to look unique.

2) Content - I have found that this is very important in determining your quality score. For arbi sites, take the damn time to sit down and type out a short article for the MFA page you are promoting. This will really help in determining how much you pay per keyword. Also, I have found that keyword density plays a huge roll in optimizing your quality score. If you load your content with "dallas dui layer" too much, you are going to get raped by the G. Instead, try making everything flow together in a normal paragraph and seem like good content for someone to read.

3) Instead of just making a site or using a template that will show content related to your keyword and ads only, try to make the site seem so that the user will have a good experience. For example, have a navigation section that will have links related to your keyword that link back to the main page of your MFA page. For example, if your main keyword is "online dating," have a couple of links such as "online dating home", "online dating guide", "online dating tips", etc. From what I've experienced, you get screwed when you just have your adsense ad blocks and content related to the keyword you are going to target, but instead have links corresponding to your main page keyword.

4) Have a "contact us" page on the page that you are sending traffic to. I may just be retarded, but I feel like this increased your quality score as well. have the page link back to your main page like all your other links, but maybe fill in some bogus "contact us" info.

**I am a complete NEWBIE at arbitrage. I have found that these things have helped my quality score and thus reduced the CPC of my sites, but as I said earlier, I may just be making stuff up that isn't relevant/usefull at all, so please correct me if need be so we can all learn. Show everyone your tips/tricks to optimizing adwords campaings.

nice writeup. definitely all true points. i'll add my findings later tonight as i have work to get done now, but i got a whole list of things to consider when optimizing sites for adwords.

Aside from what mkrongel had mentioned which I have been working on implementing I did several things to get my QS back up in the last few days.

1) After testing my landing page/s on two different sites with NO results in the last week I decided to buy a new domain. One that is more targeted.

2) I redid my landing page somewhat, I have added a nav bar at the footer consisting of, Home, Terms & Conditions, Privacy-Policy, About Us, & Contact us.

After setting everything up on my new domain and set up a fresh campaign in adwords about 65% of my keywords were good!

I haven't been able to check adwords because I can't get past the first page while I'm at work but I've been getting traffic from them now which makes me very, very happy!

NOTE: I did number 2 on my landing pages BEFORE I switched everything over to the new domain. I did that last week and it didn't help any AFTER my QS was in the crapper.

What I don't get is I tried another domain last week that was a general not targeted to offers and it didn't help AT all but after setting up one that was very well targeted is when I saw results.

This weekend I will have my outgoing links pages set up for the Wiki thingy and I will report on that after it's said and done.

I had one campaign that was running well and then one day just tanked. It went for getting 250 clicks per day to about 10. I emailed support and they told me it got labeled as inappropriate because i had a picture of a girl showing cleavage. So they were only showing the ad on adult realted searches. I would have had no idea if i didnt email support. You would think they would email me or just disapprove my ad.

Along with what http://www.wickedfire.com/members/kieron.htmlKieron said (keyword in your URL is very important) basically, quality score is based on these 5 different elements:

1. CTR
2. Ad content
3. Ad grouping (don't put a ton of keywords in one ad group!)
4. Ad history
5. Landing page content

Google has become very strict on #3 lately. You don't want a bunch of keywords in each ad group. Usually less than 30 or so to make them highly targeted and relevant.

Update ~ my adgroups that consist of longtail keywords and now down to a .20 for all of them. It started with over half were at the $5-$10 and the rest were .50 when I first set it up.

I'm in the process of even breaking down my keywords even further, tons of adgroups but I think that is having a big impact on my QS. Also will have outgoing links to some major sites going by the end of the weeked to see if that helps also.

Thanks for starting this thread, +rep. I also found this page about the quality score from Perry Marshall. It seems they consider the quality of your site too if I interpret this correctly.

This and other experiments tell me that Google's Quality Score for landing pages is NOT so much a guage of how well the landing page matches the keywords and whatnot. (In fact I can show you lots of examples where there's hardly any match at all between keyword and site, and the bids are still 5 cents). Rather, it is a measure of how much content Google thinks that site has.
Bottom Line: There are some sites that Google judges as having "enough content" or "lots of content" and other sites Google judges as having "poor content" or "no content." If they think you've got no content, Sorry Pardner - You Lose. You pay ten bucks a click for 5 cent keywords.

I'm going to try this tonight on some arbi pages and see how it goes.

Great thread....Don't flame me but just wondering where to find the the quality score in google control panel?

thanks

To see your keyword Quality Scores within your account statistics:
  • Sign in to your AdWords account at: https://adwords.google.com.
  • Select the campaign, then select the ad group for which you'd like to see keyword Quality Scores.
  • Click Customize columns at the top of Keyword Tab in the ad group table.
  • Select Show Quality Score from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Done when you are finished.
You can also evaluate your keyword's Quality Score relative to its performance by looking at each keyword's minimum bid. The lower the minimum bid, the higher your keyword's Quality Score. You can find your minimum bid for active and inactive for search keywords by generating a report for minimum bids in your Reports tab. Or, you can select all your keywords in a specific ad group and click the Edit Keyword Settings button at the top of the table.

I've been running nothing but small aff niches on Adwords search network due to quality score. Many of my sites are poor and I run them solely on content network for cheap clicks.

With that said, anybody can help me say what's keeping my quality score so low? Here's one of my sites - No Fax Cash in 1 Hour Loans - Cash Extend. It does okay on Adcenter (5 to 30 cents clicks) but terrible on Adwords (I don't run it anymore there because content network doesn't pay off for it). I have three extra articles there (links at bottom) and nothing else. What can I change to make it good?

How many keywords are you using in your ad group? Less that 30 or so? Are they all highly targeted and related?

Also, Google bots often do not like a lot of affiliate links on a page if there is little content. That could also be a potential problem.

NoelKuhl, you don't really have much content for the googlebot. You just have the steps to get the loan. Try typing a short paragraph about the affiliate program, what kind of loan you are getting, etc.

Also, put some inner page linking in there. For example have a link called "types of loans" but really have it link back to your main page, I think this helps, but I'm not too sure.

Will try increasing the content on the main page. I've suspected it could be an issue but I've resisted it since this straightforward layout really works on adcenter (pretty good conversions.) Maybe I'll do a different landing for adwords to check.

pocketrockets, i use 10 to 20 per adgroup. at least one word for every keyphrase appear on the ads at least once.

wrstroud, there are currently three articles on the site. links are at the footer. you think i should i put the article links higher on the page or add more?

Thanks for the input guys.

Sounds like it's definitely a content issue. The google bot is seeing too many affiliate links and not enough content for a "good user experience".

What do you guys normally get as a minimum bid for a new campaign?

I can never get below $0.10 when I create a new campaign, has anyone gotten lower than that?
