I really don't understand how they managed to fuck up... it's beyond me.

They saw it coming, they saw everything coming! They saw how Google stole their market share, then saw how Facebook took a bite off their ass as well... but somehow they didn't learn. I just don't get it. Why haven't they come up with anything decent in the last 10 years besides Yahoo Answers?! What have they been doing all this time?

Microsoft is also messing up big time in their online endeavours, but at least they can say hey, we still pwn you all with Windows. Yahoo has nothing. It makes me sad and emotional because the FIRST thing I saw when I double-clicked on Netscape Navigator on my parents' Windows 3.1 powered computer back in 1995 was YAHOO!, and I loved it! That was my introduction to the interwebs. Makes me nostalgic and I feel sorry for them.

I have a friend who used to work for yahoo around the dotcom bubble time and he said his coworker was doing such a bad job that during her review they told her that she has to document every single thing she does throughout the day and because she's doing such a bad job she's only getting 30,000 shares that year.

I didn't even know Carol Bartz was fired. The stock isn't getting hit by the news really. It's actually up from where it was just the other day. I had heard for so long about rumors of the search engine being sold to Microsoft. I wonder if they will come in and be a player now.

That would NEVER happen. It would need regulatory approval and with all the issues with Goog right now, it would never pass.

Microsoft/Bing could be a potential buyer, but even then they would need to spend a bit of money to lobby for approval.

Good decision by Yahoo , since they can't take care of their users, don't have customer support and most importantly they can compete in market any longer as they don't have any creative ideas which can bring them back in the competition . so its better for them to sell it of before it becomes complete scrap.

bing is the only search enging thats willing to put up a fight against google, and yaho having bing search results make it the prime contender for a buyout right?

I dunno how yahoo managed to do this, they had a monopoly on web indexing for a long time, and then they just let their company just whither away just like that.

It's happened before and it'll happen again. The owners and associated folks never had any feeling of obligation to us internet users. Look at it the way they do. They will benefit in any case. It's a disposable business. Now they can move on to some other venture.

Well when google pulls the old bait and switch it happens. They came out and didn't have ads all over. There was no noise, just search and results. Everyone thought, "Hey, yeah, I don't like ads all over. Just give me my results!" and google did.. for a while...

It's perfectly reasonable to think a company could usurp google just as they did yahoo. Keep it clean and with a light social integration and I think they win. Google can be beat but it would take sickly deep pockets to get any word out since google owns the internet right now and could pull most ads they don't want people seeing..

The only way this is interesting is if Facebook buys them. Google and/or Microsoft would just absorb/liquidate them. Anyone else I could think of wouldn't have the resources or brand power to do anything interesting.
