What Google is, and isn't, doing in video games

like the article says,they start out with web games and will expand into PC and console games.and whats about mmorpg ? boy i can see this being very huge in the future

I don't believe that Google will have much success with in game advertising. My guess is that they will target online role playing games (ie. warcraft) and allow players to click on ads relevant to whatever they may be doing in the game. Although some of these games are getting more and more immersive as time goes on, the whole purpose of those games is to play in a fantasy world and forget about the real world. Personally if there were ads which linked in game play to external sites and/or real world products, I would find it annoying. If the game makers sense this, they will avoid google at all costs, not wanting to be the one to lose their audience.

Ads on the internet have been successful for google because they help people find what they are looking for...but I'm not looking for anything when I play a game.

just imagine "contextual" ads in GTA 4...

you always grab the hookers on the streets: dating ads
its very likely you crash the car right after getting into it: car insurance ads

...you get the point...

damn that would rule. hehe.

dating ads if you play WoW longer then 5 hours a day. :P
