In the next 3-4 weeks all the carriers will implement an extra step after pin confirmation. After confirming a pin code, users will receive a message similar to: "You will be subscribed for $9.99/mo to the XYZ RINGTONE PLAN, if you agree reply with "Yes" or "No" if you do not."
This has already been announced to the major ringtone companies and several large affiliate networks... |

Online advertising is now getting a hard look from government regulators, as so many shady (or 'just creative enough to be legal') tricks have been used and reported.
I know the mortgage and home loan industry is really attacking the advertisements used both online and off-line; especially flyers, brochures, billboards, etc. But hey, each regulation that comes down on businesses also brings with it a solution to deal with it at little cost. Gotta love the progressiveness and genius-ness of entrepreneurs.. |

If they are going to do that, then the payouts will have to be like $72 for anyone to profit. But then again, I'm sure they will be able to afford that now since their customers will know what they are getting into.
Before, I'm sure they had their margins down perfect. After an average of x amount of months, the 15 year old with a cell phone's mom audits the bill and realizes she's been paying 10 dollars a month for ringtones and calls to complain and cancel. Based on that, they were able to pay out $x and make a profit.

Just an update... some ringtone merchants will no longer be accepting traffic from carrier splash pages either. My AM at Neverblue told me last week. Now I have to change up my LPs.

Right now, they are still letting it fly... carrier splashes are okay. My AM from Neverblue told me that by the end of 2007, they are going to start really cracking down on this.
