Interesting Yahoo! Recommends DDoS Protection

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / February 4, 2015 / Sharktech Internet Services, a leader in internet services and provider of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection, has introduced advanced DDoS protection.

DDoS attacks are evolving at a rapid pace with no appearance of slowing down. A new breed of attack, known as Reflected DDoS, has greatly increased both the scale of DDoS attacks and the resulting damages.

"Recently an IRC network that Sharktech hosts and protects was under attack—a huge attack—similar to the attack Lizard Squad targeted Sony with," Sharktech President Tim Timrawi said. "When most providers would simply null-route or shut down the victim’s services, Sharktech sprang into action by combining the protection of three Sharktech data centers into one, powerful, cloud-based DDoS protection."

As DDoS attackers evolve and hone their skills, so must defenders. Sharktech has unified three data centers (Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles), providing DDoS protection up to 100 GigE and 140 Mpps. Sharktech is able to load balance incoming DDoS attacks into the three data centers simultaneously and relay clean traffic back to its customers’ servers. This is not the only benefit, however, according to Timrawi.

"The additional benefit of Sharktech’s advanced DDoS protection is that it introduces cloud features that result in increased performance," he said.

Sharktech, a pioneer of DDoS protection, continues to make its protection smarter, faster and stronger. Before the attack happens, stop DDoS attacks with SharkTech Advanced DDoS Protection.

About Sharktech Internet Services:

Sharktech Internet Services, established in 2003, is a provider of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection. In addition, businesses are offered a complete package of high-transfer server hosting and managed services at affordable prices. After a decade of business growth and concentrated development, Sharktech now offers services in three geo-diverse data centers.

This news was posted last year, We need more securities

A company that is supposed to protect against DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks just suffered what appears to be the largest one ever. According to IT News, CloudFlare, a content delivery network and security provider, said that the attack reached over 400 Gbps at its peak, 100 Gbps more than the previous record.

The attackers appear to have used an increasingly popular method called NTP (Network Time Protocol) Reflection, which uses a timing mechanism to greatly amplify the attack. According to security vendor Black Lotus, “100Mbps of spoofed NTP traffic can cause 5.8Gbps of malicious traffic to strike the spoofed target.” NTP Reflection attacks also conceal who the attackers were because the initial requests are spoofed.

CloudFlare CEO Matthew Prince is taking the attack in stride, but appears to be worried about the new form of attack. On Twitter, he called NTP Reflection attacks “really nasty” and said, “someone’s got a big, new cannon. Start of ugly things to come.”

CloudFlare published a blog post last month with details about how NTP Reflection attacks work. The post offers advice on how to avoid such an attack, so its interesting that CloudFlare wasn’t able to avoid one itself.

Not sure you know what DDoS means or PBN... DDoS would mean constantly overloading their set-up to cause it to be down/incredibly slow. How would someone use that to disrupt multiple websites for your gain? You would most likely be spending more for the DDoS each day vs. the cost of their site being down.
