Just an FYI, these guys are not longer that cheap anymore.

For domain renewals and orders as of November 3, 2008, the following
domain rates will apply:

.com, .net, .us, .org, .info, .name, and .biz domains will be increased to
$8.99 per year

I signed up to them years ago when they were quite expensive, I did so after I was bribed with an offer of a 32mb watch flash drive (it was a lot back then), and I never receive the flash drive, and found the service to appear feature packed with all the flashy "jump of your screen" page design, but really lacks substance for any real website developer.

What I like to do is keep the domains and the webhosts seperate, that way the web host doesn't get leverage over you and extort you with expensive renewal fees.

Everyone that was cheap will be their prices, because Verisign, the monopoly holding the .COM registry, just raised it for them.

1and1 still sucks. with the increase in price, might be time to move some domains... free private reg has been nice.

I have been using webhostGiant and they seem to be pretty good. The prices are the cheapest I have found. Anyone else tried them out?

GoDaddy might be cheap, but their service ain't so great, and if you're running anything that's grey, let alone black (ethically speaking) they'll happily hand over your details... paid up WHOIS guard or not.
I only use them for the things I do that are as white as Republican nominees.

Moniker are worth the money if you want a service too lazy to fork over details.

And honestly, if you're a domainer, you're going to flip something for like $500 down the track anyway, so what's an extra $1 on the rego? If it makes such a difference to your bottom line, you're buying shitty domains.

They blow. If you ever have a problem with any of your sites and call tech support, be prepared to talk to some fucking guy from India that can barely speak English.

My customer ID ends in two three's. So when I tell them xxxxxx33 they repeat it and say "twree-twree" and I say no "three-three". I'm so fucked up fyi.

moving domains out of 1and1 is hell. it is barley worth dealing with it even when they give you free domains with their hosting.

1and1 blows big time. They hold you hostage and use the Chinese water torture credit card charges against you until you call it in stolen. It's the only way out of those bastards. How else can they afford those 7-page ad spreads in all the magazines?
