The writer seems to have a good general understanding of the business, but it was very odd seeing an affiliate network described as a "temp agency" with a "job board."
The majority of the article presented AM as a cash-rich, shady underside of the Internet, holding little value or ethics. Your thoughts? The Anatomy of a Web Advertising Scam

That article has definitely confirmed my suspicions about the whole diet blog/fake blog type of advertising. I know it's worked in the past, for me and others, but after seeing some of the buzz last year about how consumers were getting rebilled like crazy from acai, I knew it was going to leach on to the other 3.95 s/h products that promise pure BS. I've stopped promoting some of this stuff, at least in the USA. But for right now I feel like I'm on both sides of the fence. The article really aims at putting a knife into affiliates by comparing them to "scum".
But then again it's all part of the circle. I love it how the author points out these scams but then allows advertising between paragraphs.

The last page is absolute hilarity.
This piece owes a large bit of thanks to Nickycakes.com, which has a vulgar but indispensible guide to affiliate advertising. Also, the Waffles at Noon blog is ace at keeping track of all the various scams and landing pages. E-mail me if you’ve seen this kind of multilevel marketing scam for other products than those mentioned. TEH IRONING IS KILLING ME |
