Msn FTC "teams up" with Bing running "the ads you see are scams" PSAs.

Bing Ads Warn About Online Scams

Quote:
It’s a new campaign devised to protect users from getting scammed; Microsoft worked with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Postal Inspection Service, and Western Union to provide public service announcements (PSAs) in the form of ads on Bing results pages.

Nevarc has a spectacular aura about
"Search-based public service announcements are powerful because they reach consumers at the teachable moment,"

Pfft, if consumers were teachable we'd all be doing something more respectable like owning an escort agency or distributing ecstasy pills. Consumers are dumber than ever and all the scam warnings in the world drilled into their brain won't change that, it's just another illusion to look like something is being done to help the little guy while the people behind it are taking billions in ad dollars to send them right into the lions den.

I wonder if the Federal Reserve site qualifies as a scam.

That stinks . . . go news is Bing traffic sucks too.

To put it into comparison . . .

On a particular un-named keyword google sent 20,000 impressions and bing sent 8.

fwah!

That's how all the ad platforms are these days, they gladly jack up the click costs and take the dirty money when nothing is wrong but then assume no responsibility and point fingers when some problem occurs.

While they do allow some things to slide, let's not hand out all the blame. They set rules. Even the places without bad press. If you're running even a reasonable amount of places nowadays(for PPC at least) you've probably got more than one version of the page.
If you're running trial offers there's places that don't allow some combination of: upsells, audio/video autoplay, exit pops, pop ups, asterisks around "free", terms of service(link), terms of service(text), certain niches altogether, flogs, farticles, celeb endorsement w/o proof+documentation, etc.
They've all got their own rules to keep things in check. They want money, but have a set limit of heat they're willing to take for it.
It's a balance between both sides.
