Traffic Yahoo gets kicked to curb by Google, Bing

Google, Bing duke it out, leave Yahoo in dust - Dec. 17, 2009

Snipped
Quote:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Once the world's online search leader, Yahoo's share has sharply declined, putting it in danger of losing its relevance in a market increasingly dominated by Google.

Yahoo's search market share in November fell to 17.5% from 18% in October, according to a monthly comScore report released late Wednesday. It's the lowest share ever recorded for Yahoo (YHOO, Fortune 500).

This makes me wonder if Yahoo's share is being eaten by Google or Bing. I really think Bing will start pulling users from Yahoo before they start pulling them from Google.

The numbers seemed to bear that out, with Yahoo losing 1.8 and Bing picking up 1.4.

Well, let's look at who uses Yahoo.
I've read in numerous places that the average Yahoo user substantially less tech savvy, user has less education in general, and are resistant to changing habits. Lower credit score too.
It's the same shit that makes them such good marketing fodder.

Now, whilst people will remain ill educated marketing fodder, they are getting more tech savvy, and less likely to remain habitually (unless you count serial compulsive activity as a habit) bound to a single service.

IMO, Yahoo needs to figure out what their remaining strong suites are, if any, and develop the hell out of them, and surge ahead in that one area... Or develop an entirely new method of organising searchable data.

Yahoo search sucks. I haven't used Yahoo since the 90's...even then Altavista was better. On another note, Yahoo does provide other services that are better than Bing and Google. For instance, I don't know how I would live without Yahoo News.

I tend to agree.

Yahoo users wont adjust to the simplicity of Google.

Of course, ESPN's Fantasy System is pretty slick if you're playing in a persistent franchise league with auction drafts. They didn't make many improvements since last year, but with a few tweaks, ESPN will probably pass Yahoo for Fantasy Sports. Charging a subscription fee for live stats is so 2007.

I'm just glad of this, I've always thought Yahoo search was terrible. My browser automatically uses Bing and I haven't had any problems with it yet. I agree with MetaFever about "Yahoo users wont adjust to the simplicity of Google", however.

yahoo mail and fantasy sports. other than that I wouldn't need yahoo. gmail far superior, of course. I'm surprised facebook hasn't really gotten into the fantasy sports game.

yahoos home page is a massive portal, googles is a search box.

suprising how many homepages are set to use yahoo on my travels, google i dont see set as a home page much. Ofc, they both end up using googl through the course of their session, but its funny seeing people type in google.com constantly
