Question Improving Poor Conversion Rates?

My site is a little over a month old, and I have only had two conversions go through after about 1800 uniques, this is a lot lower than I was expecting.

I am trying different methods to improve my conversion rates, and I have sucessfully lowered my bounce rate and increased time on site, but no more conversions.

I am thinking of doing a contest to promote my site, using incentive based entries, if you make a purchase through my affiliate you get 10 entries into the contest, would this help improve overall web presence?

I am not sure what to do next, any advice?

Site in Question: www.hookahreviews.net

Of the 1,800, how many clicked through your affiliate link?

Here are some tips:

-"borrow" reviews from your advertiser's site, the voice of the customer is more powerful than yours
-i wouldn't put the prices in your reviews, it's not your job to sell it, but to promote it
-instead of saying 'you can purchase xxx hookah from...', replace it with a big button or large bolded text that has a strong CTA, split test different colors - use red first

Try email marketing. Use a pop-over form to capture emails and then set up an autoresponder campaign where you educate them on hookahs and intersperse the info emails with product reviews/sales copy. Send them special offers every once in a while and see what happens...You may be pleasantly surprised by a slow trickle of sales...

Unrelated directly to your conversion question, but edit your template and remove the references to archives when each category is clicked.

Yes, that would be my first question.

What click through rate were you expecting?
What conversion after click through were you expecting?

And, btw, WHERE IS your affiliate link?

Bompa
How can I track clicks themselves?

I was expecting about 1% conversion rate by now.

My affiliate links are at the end of each review, where else could I realistically add them?

Thanks for the reply.

Ohhh shit son. You need to get on that dude. What if of those 1,800 uniques, only 5 clicked on an affiliate link?

Here's a killer tip - move the free hookah offer to the top above all the content but under your logo/nav. make it a different color from the site and make sure it's the first thing ppl see.

Also, once you roll in more sales - start pushing the more popular products.

Where is your traffic coming from?

If seo, review the keywords that users are hitting your site with. They may not exactly be the best for people looking to buy. Once you know the mindset of your visitors it will better help you understand what could added / removed from your site to help increase conversions.

For tracking, you can use tracking202 (which seems to be popular amongst affilaites here), or you could just use a custom google anlaytics tracking javascript. Yes, you could track outbound links from your domain/landingPage as well:
