Question Why are so very many Proxy sites for sale?

Is google dumping them from adsense?

Seems like a lot of Proxy sites are for sale!

I'm interested in this also.
One theory I came up with was that they have spammed and link dropped everywhere they could and they want to get rid of it before revenue starts dropping.

buy a cheap domain
download a free proxy script form sourceforge
slap some adsense banners on it and BAM. a new proxy site is born.

I have seen several for sale probably due to bandwidth limitations (and this was obviously not stated in the sale)
I remember a proxy pushing 51 GB a day on dreamhost that makes roughly 1.5-1.6 TB and it was near the limit (at that time DH was offering ~2TB)
I imagine the such kind of sites also get a lot of notifications from the shared host due to high resources usage so that they end up selling

They are easy, they make a couple of bucks pretty quick, and then they kind of go to shit. Bandwidth issues aren't impossible to handle, but must be addressed. Plus who knows what kind of crap is flowing through your server? Better off making your own than buying one. Dave turnbull dot org has a good blog on itt

This is true. You can sell a fully developed website for more money, and proxy sites (as mentioned) are easy to create.

Also, proxy websites have a short life since the web-nanny programs eventually find them and block them too.

With that said, if you're going to do it, here's a couple pieces of advice:
-Host it yourself (use an old linux box on your dsl, if it takes too much BW, shut it off), saves you from potentially pissing off your host with this unwanted traffic
-Install Adlogger before you put Adsense on it (Proxy users are braindead and will click on ads over and over and get you in trouble)
-Put Adversal on your profixified pages (DON'T put adsense on them, it's against the TOS)
-Buy a domain that does not have the word "proxy" in it.

I would have to say and agree with everyone else on the whole idea that proxy sites are easy to make, quick to make a couple of buck, and easy to just push of to someone else. It takes almost no effort to create a proxy site as stated above as well.

The proxies also lose their value when they are blocked by web filters and such, if I had one I'd sell it once it got blocked by all major filters.
