Newbiealert I bought my competition .co domain

Should I hold on to it, or should I build a site with it? They are the industry leader and I wanted to build a site with it. I know this is more a legal question, but might there be some legal ramifications?

If it's a trademark or a copyrighted name you could lose the domain if they decide to make it an issue.

If it's a big company, you might want to tread carefully. I remember reading about Microsoft a few years ago hammering squatters with suits and getting $20,000+ judgments against them. If it's Mom and Pop's Handmade Quilts or somesuch, then worst case might be a C&D from an attorney.

Some people just like to sue, though... Shoemoney

mikerowesoft.com was on the verge of getting sued big time, but then there were a big case around it, supporting the little teenage guy, and became a PR nightmare for microsoft. Then they settled by offering him xbox360 and a few games as well as some microsoft course. LOL.

it wasn't even a breach of trademark, the guys birth name was mike rowe, and he added soft at the end which made it phonetically sound like microsoft. That was enough to get the MS lawyers pursuing him.

Poor kid had a very large community around it, he was a MS software coder, may have had some linux ties as well which pissed MS off.

Anyway MS eventually got the domain and it now rediretctos to microsoft.com, and mike rowe probably lost his user base.

It's a pretty big company, about 25 mil. a year. They are the leader in the same business we are in. I think maybe I will just sit on it, maybe they will offer me and xbox with the connect.

Sounds like the best you could do is monetize on typos, does not sound like you can oputrank them on their keywords.. All in all - not much of a profit

It's rather risky to use such domains
