Checkthisout What are YOU doing in 2008?

I thought I'd write this up because it's nearly January 4th, and in the last four days I've made more money online than I made in all of January 2007... quite a bit more, actually. Anyway, I also put this post in the newbie section because I, like everyone else, was a newbie when I first hit this forum in December of 2006.

Today, though still relatively inexperienced in many fields and areas of marketing, I am generating enough revenue and involved enough in the industry that I can honestly sit here and admire what I've accomplished with the information from this board as well as a bit of common sense and hard work.

As Jon's sig states, the harder I work the luckier I seem to get. One thing I'd also like to add is the more I contribute the more ideas get shared. So, that being said, I've spent a few weeks really thinking about where I want to go in 2008 and how I want to get there. After all, an online business is as much a tangible entity as anything else and should definitely be treated as such.

So, here are my goals for 2008.
  • Generate a total of $190,000 in profit. Note I said profit, not overall volume. That is approximately 50% more than what I generated in 2007 online, but I also believe it to be a very achievable goal given the venues and vehicles that are open to affiliates now that weren't available even six months ago.
  • Reduce my site count to 10 to 12 solid content websites and focus on PPC. One mistake I made as a new affiliate was trying to get my feet wet in too many markets. How the heck are you supposed to know what you're doing when you only know a little bit about everything and a whole lot about nothing?

For me, my expertise is content and copy. I can write, and I can write well, so why focus on arbitrage or free stuff websites when I know I can create excellent ad copy for PPC? The point I'm making here is that you already probably have some skill in one area or another, be it content, design, programming... whatever. Take what you know and use that to achieve results as opposed to trying to learn everything all at once.

Hell, I can't code to save my life, but I outsource that kind of stuff to people who can.
  • Automate, automate, automate! One of my biggest failings in 2007 was not wanting to pay to have things automated. This was a result of not having sufficient cashflow at the time (or so I thought), but in retrospect I would have made a TON MORE if I had automated as much as possible from the get-go. My goal for 2008 is to automate just about anything and everything.

If there is a script that costs $100 that can do something you do in 5 seconds instead of 50 minutes, spend the $100 and get it out of the way.
  • Learn as much as possible from as many people as possible. Make no mistake, millionaires roam on this forum. You know who they are, so network with them. I try and talk to as many people as possible, even if they aren't "millionaires", because just about everyone on this forum has good ideas and a fresh perspective on things.

Hell, talking with MyOwnDemon and Jon a couple of months ago has resulted in over $12,000 in my pocket since then. They didn't outline a specific blueprint for me, but rather approached a problem I was having from a totally different perspective.
  • Help as many people as possible. This is my last, and arguably most important, goal for 2008. Many people in this industry (and on this forum) have helped me at some point in time, and I want to do the same.

So, now that you know my goals for 2008, I ask you this: what are you doing in 2008 to make it big? Think about it (if you haven't already), and let's hear it.
Do you have a plan written down? If not, do it now.

Do you know which markets you want to tackle? If not, do it now.

Are you willing to work as much as you need to do accomplish it? If not, do it now.

Besides complete success, what other options do you have? Your first answer should be there are no other options.

Food for thought. Good luck in 2008!

Great post.

My motto for 2008: Make it happen.

I've spent several months lurking the forums, reading blogs and learning the business. In late Nov, I decided to finally shit or get off the pot. Combining my coding skills with some of the new knowledge I quickly made enough just in the last month to max out my IRA account for the year.

Definitely looking forward to stop lurking so much and start networking with the other members on here and hopefully form some solid symbiotic relationships. Willing to put in those 12-16 hour days to make the most of it and set my wife and I up for a very early retirement.

Cheers!

My goal? Contribute 100% of my day job's paycheck to my retirement savings and live off of my PPC\CPA earnings. Got a ways to go to meet that goal but I am determined to pull it off.

Nice goal, it's a good feeling knowing you can stash so much away..... maybe you should call up that accountant and see if he should start working on saving you money on taxes too. good luck

Excellent post.

One suggestion ADJump, is to outsource some of your writing. I'm an excellent writer, but my income really took off after I hired extra writers to add regular content to my sites.

This allowed me to concentrate on developing and launching new sites. I've got a dozen good money makers, but I'm only writing everyday at two of them. I spend about an hour each day giving editorial advice at the other sites. It's not exactly on autopilot, but it's not hard work.

Build something out of nothing - that goes for my day job. It's good for the money, considering I am not running much on the side at the moment and am bent on launching my "pet" project in Q1, which is not going to generate much cash as far as i can see. But hey! it will look good and will make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside .
Also, got two other personal projects in the pipeline, looking to go live end of next month and scale by beginning of Q2 - estimating an additional 50-70k in profits. I can also write off my fuckin appt!!! WOoOHOOOO!! Fuckin NYC prices!

Or... living in London (Ontario), you can get a 1,200 square foot 2 bedroom, with ceramic tile and whatnot, for $850/month (utilities in).

Excellent post AdJumpCM. Your post made me think about things... yes, I definitely need to write down a plan. Right now I am in a chaotic state - trying out things, reading, learning, a bit from everything, but it has no real goal and direction. Right now, I am making no more than $5-$10 daily from online business (my main income stream is from clients work as a programmer and it fuckin sucks), but god damned hell, this will change in '08, you bet!
Very inspirational post man.

Good, glad to hear it!

Something to think about... last January I only made $410 the whole month. Today I've made $484 and rising. Remember, learn and focus as much as you can. I found something that I'm good at and I've zeroed in on it. Do the same, success will follow.

Thanks for the post AdJumpCM, come visit me when you're in Toronto

My goal is to average a monthly income of $300 from online operations (affiliate and adsense) over 2008. I've created a system that allows me to create a good looking new site in about 1 hour, I'd like to scale it up to about 100 sites by the end of 2008. Wealth by a thousand papercuts. I am planning to create an innovative web-directory concept, and to eventually sell it (like PHPLD does) to others.

I also have a goal of meeting several successful local affiliates and bloggers in person.

And, of course, what I'd like most to do in 2008 is lots of women.

Some goals:
  • Completely automate my CL/ebay marketing
  • Continue and expand with my adult affiliate sites/methods
  • Have all of my credit card, student loan, and car loan debt paid off with money from affiliate marketing
  • Make enough after that to take a nice, paid-for vacation with my wife since we haven't really done that in 3 years
