Here's another. I'm wondering how to find out if Google has indexed my site. I looked at my cPanel stats and it's showing that the 'Googlebot' and 'Yahoo' have paid me a visit. Is this any indicator? Forgive that question. I'm such a noobie.

Even better idea, download SEOquake ... it gives you lots of stats like backlinks, indexed pages, whois, ... as you surf.

So is that good for a noobie to be indexed already? I'm going to say it is. So when I put it in my ebook about getting indexed I can be nice and convincing!

I've always uploaded mine to /putlic_html/ never had a problem. You'll see that the files in that folder and /www/ are the same.

It's a cache problem. I hit "go" instead of "refresh" when developing and it works for me 99% of the time. If not, here's a clear cache button as a firefox addon.

I have heard that some CMS have an internal caching "feature". I'm sure if you post what flavor of CMS you use someone will be able to direct you here. Sadly, it won't be me ... I prefer homegrown sites.

Iraqi Dinars? I've got a million of them in a lock box just in case their shit ever gets together ... today's value is about $850 USD. I figure A> they've got lots of oil & B> the USD is going down the shitter ... It will hopefully turn out well in a decade or so.

Still not working - is there a lag between uploading and new pages showing? I am uploading files just to the public_html folder is that the only place i should upload to?

Is it a CMS you are using (wordpress, joomla, etc)?

Test to make sure you are uploading the right file to the right folder by deleting the file then refresh in firefox .. should get a 404 or other "include" errors. I'll often be editing 3-4 files at a time and take for granite I uploaded the correct php file but instead keep uploading a css one or whatever, so the changes never show ... doh

Just to update everyone and to ask for opinion. I have used my LP as the template for all my other pages. I have given each page a title, description and Kw tag relating to that page. Am i in danger of getting indexed with dupe content before i can add unique content - should i pull them all down again?

Content is easy.

The most important thing is constant updating.
Every 2 days seem to work fine (don't sweat it if you leave out a day).

The best method is to batch the updating.
Make use of the future post feature in Wordpress, it is gold.

Say you want your blog to update every 2 days, you just sit down and write 3 short posts and date them to publish in the future. This will take you less than an hour, including pictures, etc...
Tadaa, you are done for a week!

When writing the pink iphone posts, I found that this worked fine:
- Ads on top and sidebar of the site.
- Underneath each entry, I added a short marketing spiel as well:

Get your free pink iphone here. <--- Obviously linked to offer.

I varied this, so it was actually part of the post.

As for content:
Searh for stuff related to your page.

Google this:
Glitter graphics
Glitter myspace
Glitter facebook
How to add grafx to myspace page
Grafx for myspace
..
etc, etc...

You can also back date posts to make the site appear more mature. I found a good 'old' new article for Honda Accords. I just adjusted the timestamp on the post to make it look like it was 'fresh' at the time. I have been adding new and back dating stuff at the same time.

I see what you're talking about regarding content. I'll definitely include that ad structure in my posts. This is my strategy so far for content - mind you I am almost TOTALLY clueless on *what* to write about.

* Posts about the Macbook in general such as Specifications, Graphics, Keyboard, etc every 2 days - this type of style of posts will also be created as pages since they seem to have the bare essentials of what the Macbook is (good/bad idea?)

* Posts on HOW TO install the MacBook

* Made up (ha ha) comments from girls about how much they enjoy the pink macbook.

Really don't have more to go on then that right now, I've been googling trying to find information but it doesn't really seem that I can get much more elaborate.... *thinks outside the box*

I'm also looking at ways to monetize this site. I know I can do Adsense/Adbrite etc on the site but I am thinking that if I could find affiliate offers promoting both the MacBook + skin cover then I'd be making way more money then .50c per click or how ever much it is. I could be totally wrong here though. I have found only one vendor so far on ShareASale and I've looked up "pink apple macbook affiliate" "pink apple macbook affiliate program" "apple macbook cover affiliate" "apple macbook cover affiliate program" "macbook case affiliate" etc etc. The one on ShareASale was only for the case itself @ $13.95 for 8% commission = $1.16 p/sale. At that rate Adsense would be the go...

EDIT: Just found another program offering Pink Apple MacBook cases for $28.99 which does give me more return, but they are Macbook AIR cases... I wonder if I should also promote MacBook Pro and MacBook Air Cases on my site... comments?

mediastar:- to my knowledge those plugins are only for Wordpress. Really, they aren't completely necessary, they just make things a little easier. Keep going mate, I really like the layout of your site for the type of content it is selling anyway!

Considering my demographic as well, I don't think they care for the technical aspects too much. I'll relocate those hardcore spec posts just to the pages, but have the posts in a similiar fashion as how you describe.

you can sign up for the ebay publishers network and sell pink iphones listed on ebay. Sounds like those would be good items to sell to your target audience

Use the google adwords tool to find some potential posts. Just enter "pink iphone" and it gives you 15 keyphrases. Make posts about each.

I've got a small problem with my site (contentlinks.org). While the phrase perfectly describes the script I'm selling, I noticed that kontera has a trademark on "content link". I'm actually forseeing a problem with that as kontera probably has millions of bucks and a law staff ready to pounce. Contacted my lawyer but I don't have high hopes on this one. If I build on that name there is a good chance it can all be stripped of me one day. Any suggestions from WF people? I'm thinking of just picking another domain for that script. That sounds like the logical answer but it would put me in a position where it couldn't be involved with this thread since the domain is not pulled from the Mike's list of domains.

If that's the way I go, I'll do something different with the domain to make a buck, that way so I can keep going here.

Will keep you updated, any suggestions appreciated.

Are you sure "content link" is a trademark? It looks to me that "ContentLink" is their product. Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS)

IANAL but it seems kind of stupid. Of course, even if they don't have a valid claim they could just be dicks and take you to court to waste your money and try to force you to settle.

I guess BlueMendicant is right, the TESS does not return anything for contentlinks.

Just don't name your script "contentLinkScript" or something like that.
Be creative and choose a cool name.

Register that domain as well, so if contentlinks.org is pulled some day, you have a fallback.

For FTP server just use www dot yourdomain dot com. Really simple. I never had a problem doing it that way. Set the home directory to /public_html/.

Ok, I need a little 'student lesson' here on my stats. I was goofing around last night and I went ahead and 'stumbled' my own site. Here is what my stats showed just now when I looked at them. Help me break them down. I cut out some pieces of awstats from cPanel. If you need to look at something else from in there, let me know. Mike, I know you can go to any cPanel you want from the master panel.

Last one before I leave today. I'm getting my moneymakers together. I found a site that already had a crapload of ebay affiliate links put together in a nice table for everything about Accords. Well, I snatched it, replaced the beginning of the url with my own and now I have a nice catalogue of ebay affiliate links to use throughout my site. I won't be leaving it in this format but it's nice to have been able to spend 10 minutes to put together these nice categories by year, part, etc. Man, I love being a lazy developer.

I can reformat these for anyone who wants one. No shit! Just sign up for an ebay affiliate program and I'll give you guys a lesson in breaking it down. Yeehaa!

Just a quick tip if you're doing eBay affiliate stuff -- pretty standard I think but for the record, just log into your account and set up a campaign, taking note of the campaign number. Then do an eBay advanced search for the keywords and parameters for which you are looking. Towards the bottom there is an option to show affiliate info -- choos EPN and enter your campaign number.

This will produce a standard search return that has your affiliate links embedded. Right-click the RSS link, copy it into Feedburner or a similar service, and voila -- you've got a short URL for an RSS feed to enter into WordPress or other syndication.

If you don't want to syndicate to a blog, visit

Cut n' Paste JavaScript RSS Feed

to create a display for a static page.

So, I just launched Automatic Monster

The Automatic is a UK band with a small cult following. It's doing ok the charts and is due up for a new CD in June 2008. It's a smaller niche but I'm hoping to capitalize on the new CD release through the Amazon.com affiliate program. Amazon has recently released a new mp3 widget where you can sell mp3s through their service.

I'm not sure if there is enough search volume for purely organic seo, so I'm going to rebrand some youtube videos and try to make some of my own.

Not sure if it's a good use of the domain, but it's a start...right?

Okay, I cant get WordPress to download right. After I save and open/unzip it, it opens everything as a Microsoft Digital Image Document. I can open the wp-config-sample folder with Notepad and change it, but it wont load through the ftp client. How can I get it to open in anything but MS Digital Image Document? Don't know if that makes sense to anyone or not.

Alright, I claimed Editorialize. I just threw up the splash page today (all custom). I will be editing the site live so please excuse any hiccups you may see. The service I will be providing is daily blog updates. I will hire a staff (qualified writers of course) to help me out with the service. It will offer something like 200 word articles posted 3 times a week for $50. Of course there will be tons of different packages available, but thats the gist of it. Any comments?

Alright I'm done for tonight. 3:30AM is rolling around, and I have shit to do tomorrow. After several hours of designing and coding (fucking hate coding) its done. Some basic content has been put in, but I'll probably change it tomorrow. Plans for tomorrow:

• Finalize content
• Work on contact script (can't do PHP for shit, so this should be fun...)
• Master Freshbooks and BaseCamp
• Post for hire ads to try and get an employee or two

Then after that I'll go over everything 2 or 3 more times, go through the ordering process myself, and open the doors. Any suggestions about the site or the product would be greatly appreciated. As of now, nothing is set in stone.

wordpress is a collection of .php and template files. you can open them all in notepad for editing (I prefer vim) you then ftp them to your web server using something like filezilla

BlueMendicant, I get that, but it still saves as MS Digital Image Document, which is causing the problem. What other program(s) would be useful to open with? I dont know Windows OS for shit, but I can usually fumble around to figure out most problems. I could just have Mike or someone else install it, but would like to figure out a solution as well.

What is the file extension? .zip? .tar.gz? Either way, try winrar.
