Currently I need help with hosting and domains. If anyone has extra room on their VPS or dedicated box, PM me. Also, if you have domains you want to donate to this project, PM me.

If you are donating domains, you need to be okay with giving them up for $10, no more, no less. If the domain has less than 6 months remaining on it and your n00b wants to buy it, you have to renew the domain for them before pushing it.

For those of you looking to help out with hosting, you need to be able to set up individual accounts, not "add on" domains in your shared account. Hosting accounts can be as small as 1 gig of memory and 2 gig of transfer. Or you can provide them with as much memory and transfer as you want.

n00bs that are blessed with a domain and hosting through the kindness of other members should thank their "sponsors" by at least signing up for affiliate programs through their sponsors links. It's not much, but it's something. Also, you must post your progress at least once per week in this thread, AND have something visible within 3 days of getting your domain / hosting, or else you lose your domain / hosting and any involvement in this project.

n00bs wanting to participate, just keep and eye on this thread. You'll know when we're ready for you.

I'll try to be more active this time, but I can't promise anything. So, if any vets want to help out, that would be great!

Alrighty, we're almost ready. Some of the domains from "No Excuses Part 1" will be reused. Others expire shortly and I don't want to mess with renewing them. So, what I'm willing to do (since nobody wants to donate any domains) is buy 20 .info's for you guys.

Since I'm buying them, I'll own them, but you'll get to use them. If you decide to purchase your domain at the end of "No Excuses 2" you will have that option.

I'll post the domain list shortly (next 24 hours or so).

BTW, the thread is now open, so you can start asking questions if you like.

Well... im going to use this thread to get my ass started on hosted sites and try to get some decent sites up. I did some stuff with blogger so im not completely noob. But im clueless when it comes to hosted sites and wordpress.

So far i got my self hosting with bluehost and a new domain. I installed wordpress but it doesn't show up at the regular url.

as in www* .url .com but it does show up at www . url . com /admin /wordpress/

so im trying to get that fixed some how and then i guess ill have to find tons of plugins and what not.

Am digging around my domains to see if any can be sacrificed to the cause that actually aren't shit that would only insult the recipient.

Will be available on IM for 2 hours everyday (except weekends), (Will let Mike know the timings, so that he can post in the new thread) for any query on anything on Wordpress or WPMU, this will include basic installation, security requirements, theme installation/editing, css compliance, plugin management and other such stuff.

this contest was started by Mike for the people who say they cannot afford domains or domain hosting. since phpbay costs $50 to purchase, I'm sure that for that amount you could afford a domain and domain hosting

It won't really. The free domain+hosting thing is for noobs starting up. But this program actually helps procrastinating 9-5ers (who have a few dollars to spare) to just step up on their feet and get going.

And anyways we now have McJiffy - Open source alternative to BANS and Phpbay - so that shouldn't be much of a problem either.

While I agree with you on the use of phpBay defeating the purpose of this, I never saw anything about it being only for people who couldn't afford shit, just people who couldn't figure shit out or needed a boost in the right direction (me on both accounts).

Regarding phpbay there's an excellent tutorial already out there and this site ain't bad either. I can't imagine there would be all that much more that a thread could offer here, especially since all phpbay users get access to the phpbay forums. But whatever floats your boat. With the wealth of knowledge in these forums and people willing to help, it would seem a waste to be looking at one phpbay site after another.

Regarding a post earlier about raising the floor instead of the ceiling, it would seem that n00bs doing phpBay sites might go from 80% awesome to 90% awesome w/ a phpBay project in the n00b challenge. Personally, I'd rather raise the floor on my understanding of PPC, targeted traffic, or any of the other myriad number of facets of Affiliate Marketing that escape me. Going from 10% understanding to 50-60% in those areas is going to pay a shit ton more than fully pimping out a phpBay store.

Just a little food for thought, but to each their own!

For my site, phpBay will just be another stream of revenue. I'm going to try and get most of my monies from affiliate offers, then EPN, then maybe adsense. Sorry I didn't clarify. These phpBay stores are getting saturated pretty quickly, which is why I won't focus solely on it.

I agree... and with the above linked tutorial - many are looking the same too. With a slew of EPN stores it will end up becoming a crap shoot whether you get credit for the sale or not as online shoppers jump from one epn store to the next and cookies getting overwritten continuously. At least that's one scenario.

Just to clear the air, I have nothing again phpbay, I find it a great piece of software (hell, I use it myself). I just thought from the original scope the challenge was for mostly people who didn't have the money to start out.. but it seems it has expanded from that..

I have been doing some things with ebay in the case study thread, using a free alternative to phpbay and BANS. I am not making any claims to have invented it (it uses feedwordpress), but I've been making my own tweaks to it for over 6 months, and know how to use it. Since I am phasing out that method for my own stuff (I don't like EPN), I'd be willing to give out some pointers for those wanting to try it.

I'm not going to just pass stuff out, though. As it was previously mentioned, if everyone slaps up the same thing, it's not going to work. Like phpbay stores, ebay autoblogs are a dime a dozen; so, if you are thinking about trying it, you're going to have to make some mods of your own to make it unique.

I have a quick comment about this post from the first round of this program. The below is a post you made there. I would look for a new writer and am a little surprised no one else mentioned this.

I, myself wouldn't buy articles from this site based solely on the sample articles there. Don't take this personally, I think you did a great job on the project. If I were going to shell out cash for articles I'd expect top quality work with somewhat of a mastery of the english language.

I don't know what the "rules" are of this thing. Mike said fire away above with questions. I didn't know if that was about the challenge itself or about our specific projects. Heck, I think you have to be accepted into the n00b challenge as well - so who knows if I'm in or out or what - but I just thought I'd give an update since this post gave me the motivation to actually do something - and that something is build. I'm building a site, content, business plan, etc. And it's coming together fairly quickly. Amazing what a bit of concentration, determination, and limited interruptions can do for progress.

On the content generation side, let me reitterate what others have said - it's a lot easier to write about something that you are interested in - I've kicked out a few articles so far today and it's fairly decent stuff. Nice to get it out of my head and online. Now I can push it out and free up some room. I think that's a compounding problem of paralysis by analysis... your head gets too full and nothing else can enter, yet your not moving stuff through by acting to make room for new and better ideas. At least that was my experience!
