Hi there,
Well, as a Latin American, some services are new for me. Taking into account I write, translate and design, I want to get some extra money anyway. I stumbled across these two sites: eLance.com and Guru.com. Has anyone got any experience with them? Are they worth it or not? Thanks for your feedback. |

I've used Elance as both a buyer and a provider at various points in time, and I couldn't be happier with it. Something about the Guru.com interface never felt quite right to me, but mostly, I just like that Elance has more people (both buyers and providers).
As with anything, just be careful of people with no feedback. |

I'm a member of eLance as well. I tried to register with Guru before but I had this impression that not many people post projects over there. Good luck on your quest, Tedel!

I've provided programming services on Elance, and bought design services.
In both cases I've found it is definitely a buyers market, with heaps of bidders at stupid low prices. I've managed to bag a bit of work at an OK rate, but even when you do, Elance's commission (about 10% IIRC) bites you in the ass. Not to mention that if you are serious about getting work, you'll need to buy bid credits and then spend time writing quality bids. As a Latin American native I guess the rates may work in your favour. Personally, I've had better success throwing up a few local ads and selling my development services that way. You may also like to try oDesk. I have Chinese bidding on a project of mine averaging about $15 an hour. I'm pretty sure that's way above the rate they could get in China, like, $13 to $14 above what they get in China? I won't be hiring them, but maybe they've had success before at those rates. |
