Question Monetizing social media traffic

What would be a good way to monetize social media traffic?

I have a site that has funny pictures (lame i know but it gets traffic!)...most of the traffic is from stumbleupon and digg.

i get around 500 uniques a day, and i have some projectwonderful boxes on it and a section for text-link-ads...but these aren't really doing much!

yea a cool site; I have a similar one hiding around; (fixes link in sig) CPM adds work well; you will prb get between 0.25-0.75 due to genre but hey income is income.

Why not put the funny pics on T-shirts using cafepress or something like that and advertise that with each post. Might break some copyright laws or something, tho.

Or find a website that sells tshirt/cups/whatever with funny pictures on them already. Link the pictures to that program link and viola... like... 2 cents a sale. lol

free shit works well too... or shit they say is free... hehe

I'd say try and figure out the demographic of your visitors. Then see what might appeal to them. A site like that should gain a good following so really push the subscription via email and rss. I'd look at making a subscription service to get that stuff in your inbox as people like to have a good laugh in the morning to get their day started. That's where the real money will come from if you ask me. If you can get in peoples inbox's and know their demographics you can deliver targetted offers to their inbox daily. If you follow googles model it's aquire users. Users is where the long money is, so get them and profit.

awesome thanks for all the cool ideas! I'll definately try the suggestions

@Donace I used to use adbrite for cpm but it didn't really make much, in fact a lot less than what you were making. can you recommend another cpm program perhaps?

@smaxor any tips on possibly figuring out the demographic of my visitors?

@hyperion thanks man, i'll look around for something!

@kshnbd thanks!

I'd go with CPA personally. Take some of the mass market appeal kinds of things (weight loss and make money come immediately to mind) and find affiliate offers that provide you with banners and such and put those up on a rotational basis.

Test which ones pull and drop the ones that don't. Over time you should have a pretty good income.

I will caution you that online I'm a newbie so take the above for what it's worth.

Any advice is appreciated!

I have put a banner on the single posts, seeing how that goes for the week.

I was thinking of maybe selling text links on the site, to members here at wickedfire. could that also be an option?
