Question e-commerce website vs. starting a blog

Hello guys,

I have been looking around at several ideas for starting an e-commerce website vs. starting a blog and running some type of advertisement on it. I know this is a very general question, but which one do you think will require more time commitment to get going? It seems to be a blog will require less time and money but that might mean the return will be less.

Any thoughts?

I think you'll find that a blog actually requires more time and commitment.
An e-commerce site, once it's properly created, and simply be done as a series of feeds from affiliates. You don't actually need to have the product yourself. You can simply dropship... Which really only makes you a parasite in the commercial food-chain, but we have so many parasites already that no one notices anymore.

In all seriousness, if you learn how to setup a decent site using feeds from an affiliate network's dealings, you won't even have to worry about updating the store, unless you're looking to add more products specifically.

ecommerce sites can be "fun". I ran a dropship site for a while and made good money, but placing orders with the dropshipper was a bitch. And God forbid you enter the shipping address wrong. What a pain in the ass!!

But, if you're careful, you can make a good profit.

I'm now all about just getting traffic and sending them to affiliate links. No hassles.

Gary Vaynerchuk has a store (winelibrary.com) and a blog (tv.winelibrary.com). Because of his blog he has big online sales.

I don't know which one takes up more time though. He said yesterday that he went through 450 e-mails on a plane flight. Those emails were probably from people on his blog.

I would just say that both things take up most of his time but he really likes wine so he is alright with it.

If you find something you really like then you can do an e-commerce site and a blog and make a lot of money like Gary Vaynerchuk does.
