My site just went live, and now I'm switching from development to promotion mode. I've been learning a lot here on WF. I'm planning my PPC campaigns, and starting to test various ads to determine which types of customers are visiting my site, etc., my initial results (because I'm still learning) suck -- I'm getting like 3 clicks a day from adwords.
My sites content/value is virtually all user contributed. I've only had 6 unique visitors so far and three of them have participated, so I'm very optimistic. I have about $100 to spend on advertising (in addition to my PPC testing which is amounting to less than $2 a day right now), and I'm wanting to know where to get the most bang for my buck heh. I've been looking at some respectable sites that offer monthly ads, threads, or the like -- of course WF offers the promo thread as well which I'm considering. I'm sure that all of these options fit into various strategies for verious purposes. So here's the question. If you had only $100 to spend on advertising intended to bring some initial customers to your site, where would you spend it, PPC, an ad or thread on a respectable site, or something else? Thanks in advance. |

I'd look into forum posting/comment spamming and alternative methods of generating traffic.

Get some linkbait content then round up some folks to upvote it on Reddit/Digg/etc.

Depends on the topic of your site.
A method I haven't tried but that has been mentioned here which sounds promising for your "use generated content" needs is sponsoring a contest on a related forum. You might run into problems since you're competing... but it might be worth looking into if you can find the right match. Make it $100 prize and find a popular forum or 2 smaller forums with a $50 prize. Just make sure the forum gets traffic/views and most importantly, has a high level of participation and related content.
