My question is what is this guy doing to get all these back links.

the website is a fairly established one it holds a pr of 5, and its roughly 2 years old. You can see the backlink profile if you'd like yahoo site xplorer.
Basicly it's a UK based website which has over 1000 backlinks from random russian webpages. The websites are top level .ru domains. I'm just really wondering how he set all of these up. And also are they legit bl's or what I really don't understand how a website doesn't get de-indexed for doing something like this

Anyways thanks if anyone can shed some light on this kind of a linking strategy it would be mucho beuno.

Edit: I just wanted to clarify that the links are mostly being dropped into the footer or sidebar, or somewhere on the site similar to that. From what I can tell most of the websites are completely random russian websites.

UK site with nothing but Russian top level backlinks... you really think there's a chance it's legit off site SEO?

no I knew he wasn't legit I just wasn't sure how he was affording so many webpages. Are .ru's cheap?
