Hello everyone. I know you can find these by looking around the forum, and there's a treasure trove thread, but nothing that was strictly Tools, and free ones at that. So, here's some of the best tools that affiliate marketing newbies should use, and they're at no cost. I know a lot of us started on a tight budget too.

CMS, Websites, and E-Commerce Software

WordPress › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform - Wordpress. Blog software that's expanded into one powerful CMS. Easy to use, easy to edit and change, tons of free themes.

Joomla! - Joomla. Powerful CMS, very extendable, and some well-supported plugins (many moreso than Wordpress). A little more complex, and maybe not as many free themes available.

drupal.org | Community plumbing - Drupal. Another CMS option. Harder to use, but many people prefer it to the others. Not as many free templates and plugins available, but ripe for developers.

ecommerce shopping cart software by Zen Cart ecommerce solution - Zen-Cart. Free shopping cart software, based on OSCommerce. Lots of plugins, tons of free themes.

osCommerce, Open Source Online Shop E-Commerce Solutions - OSCommerce. Free shopping cart software. Again, lots of plugins and free themes. For many people, OSCommerce vs Zen Cart is like Wordpress vs Joomla. Lots of personal preference

Magento - Home - eCommerce Software for Growth - Magento. More up and coming free cart software, very "web 2.0". Not many free themes available yet, lots of good paid ones at TemplateMonster.

Prosper202 Self Hosted Apps - Prosper202. The standard for tracking clicks in affiliate marketing. Powerful tools, self hosted, and free.

ClickHeat | Clicks heatmap - Clickheat. Lets you see where people are clicking on your sites with heat maps. I use it on all of my LPs so I can improve CTRs.

Compete | Compete - Compete. Free version lets you see a decent amount of site statistics.

Google Trends - Google Trends. Lets you see trends of what's being searched for.

Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer. Check backlinks to your site.

Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool - SEOBook Keyword Suggestor. Just like it sounds, recommends keywords. Requires a free account.

Open Source | SugarCRM - Commercial Open Source CRM - SugarCRM Open Source edition. Free customer relations management software.

GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program - GIMP. Can't pay for Photoshop but need to do photo editing and basic graphics? Here you go.

OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite - Open Office (or Google Docs) for spreadsheet software and light data analysis.

Great start guys.

Please, please, please include some recommended scripts for creating LP's and Opt-Ins.

Example:

Auto-Responder
Simple MP3 Players
Quick Video FLV Video Players
Shadow Box Pop Up On Exit

Basically anything needed to create a bomb ass opt-in/LP

The only place I know of is: PHP, Javascript, ASP.NET and Java - CodeCanyon but its in it infancy at this stage and doesnt have a robust supply of scripts.

Yahoo media player works well for playing audio files. its fairly innoffensive, automatically attaches itself to audio links and brings up all tracks in a playlist

Tor for privacy and one click ip change. can be a bit slow sometimes but still useful. works best with the firefox plugin.

WAMP (and MAMP for Mac) is great for testing and modifying sites locally before making the changes live. Must have for any web master imo

Digsby = IM + Email + Social Networks - Best free IM software. I love this program. It has only gotten better.

If you need some free remote control software for the office you need to try Chris Control. All you need to do is type in the computer name and this little beast will automatically install VNC on the target computer and uninstall it when you exit the program.

Download details: Virtual PC 2007 - Sometimes I use a Vistual Machine to test different shit. I could care less about getting any sorts of virus infections on my virtual machine. Just simply store a clean copy of windows on your HD and keep replacing the virtual machine that you have been fucking with when you need a clean machine.

CDBurnerXP: Introduction and News - I use this shit to burn CDs and DVDs. Fuck Nero.

BooZet Freeware | Double Driver - backup and restore installed drivers - If you need a driver backup this is the shit. I have used this software to backup all of my drivers before I made the move to wipe the machine.

PDFCreator | Get PDFCreator at SourceForge.net - Great to use if you want to print directly to a PDF printer. I have been using this software for years.

FileZilla - The free FTP solution - Awesome software for FTP

Google Chrome - Get a fast new browser. For PC, Mac, and Linux - Kick ass web browser. I know there's a blown down version without the privacy concerns. I forget what it's called.

My DebugBar | IETester / Browser Compatibility Check for Internet Explorer Versions from 5.5 to 8 - If you are a developer you will find this software VERY useful. I have used this software to debug previous versions of IE. There's nothing like developing something with FF and Chrome and finishing shit up only to find out it's not working correctly in previous versions of IE. This will save you some time.

Two free winners if you're trying to research IM and collate sources from the web and from pdf files:

Zotero (plugin for firefox)
That sorts out your website research.
I wouldn't add pdfs directly to its library though.
What I'd do is add a link to relevant pdfs that are on your hard drive and use...

This is a great pdf viewer and annotator (and even has limited editing), but that's not the reason I use it. Click on the binoculars next to the normal search box, and you get the best document search I've ever seen.
