Yesterday, about this time, I checked a keyword I was going for in Google. My site came up first on the 3rd page. Not bad for me anyway.

I decided to check it today and now I'm on the 5th page.

Obviously there is something I'm missing. Anyone care to fill me in?

rankings just fluctuate, there's nothing really to explain. The closer you get to the top, the less they move. For instance ...

#3 -> #8
#76 -> #88
#150 -> #223

Those are all similar moves, but there's more wiggle room the lower you are ranked so the variance is higher.

It's tempting to check your rankings every day, even sometimes multiple times a day, but you need to get in the habit of checking them less or else your heart is going to explode. Shit bounces around all the time, especially in the early months of a site as you're building links. All that matters is where every few days.

If you drop down, keep building links. If you go up, keep building links. If you stay the same? build da' links cuz.

Thanks for that. I get what you mean. it's like your adsense account. Don't bother checking it daily (unless you are use to making lot lol)

How often do you guys check your rankings? I do it maybe once or twice a week. Sometimes I have OCD days where I check it a few times in one day (what the hell do I think it's really going to keep moving in a day?) but yeah, I've found it's far less stressful just to do it occasionally.

its a race... like you every marketer is struggling to rank high...

its a race.. all can not get top 3 positions... so look for those who are on main page copy them... first focus on onsite seo then proceed for other things....

Most sites I check every 3 or 4 days. Some I do check every day, but all I do is fire up market samurai and start it and minimize it,then browse quickly when it's done.

I checked one more time and it moved back up to page 4. Screw it, I'll worry more about back link building lol
