Not only is it too small, but it doesn't even look like a button. If it were me, I'd definitely whip up a shiny new button.

Also, since you shared your site, your copy could really use some tweaking/overhauling/start from scratching.

Well for example, stuff like this on your buy page:
Quote:
Will ABREVA work if a patient comes to me after a blister has already formed?
Now a doctor wouldn't buy Abreva online to sell to his patients, so you must be targeting the herpes infected hordes (i.e.: the consumer).

Why would a home consumer want to hear something directed towards a physician?

That question should be:

"Will ABREVA work if I already have a blister?"

or a similar variant that actually speaks as if it were a question from the consumer.

On your home page, you have:

Quote:
Of an oral circumstance, a cold sore, or, otherwise known as a fever blister, is classified within herpes, as herpes simplex virus types one and two. Cold sores are a result of an infection, due to febrile disease, upper respiratory or viral-type infections. The age-old terms of cold sores and fever blisters are derived from such effects as their respective sources of infections, which are frequently referred to as a cold or flu.
This reads like spun text, and it's not very inviting. This is your first line - you gotta grab em by the balls (or by their herpes blisters).

Start out by showing that you know how much cold sores suck, show empathy, then give some light technical detail, and so on. Also on the first page, you don't lead them into your sale. If a person searches for "what causes cold sores" they really want to know - "what causes my cold sore, and how can I stop it from happening?"

maybe something along these lines:

"So you got a cold sore and you want to know what causes them?

Well guess what - so do all your friends.

Just one virus, the root cause of cold sores, affects over 50% percent of the population. Under 35? Then it affects more than 75% of the population.

The fact is, thousands of people suffer from painful cold sores. Most never get rid of them, because they don't know what causes them....

[transition into facts here]

[I made the percentages up]

Also, don't scare your reader by dropping the word "herpes" right off the bat. It's scary, and it might cause them to bounce and find a more authoritative source (no offense). Introduce the term herpes slowly, and explain that it's not THAT kind of herpes (even though really it is.)

You've got a "things to avoid category", which is fine. After that though, you've got a great chance to put in a "solutions" category, where you can add a few behavioral solutions, then add "if you're just looking for a solution that will work, then check out our abreva page" (or something like that) and then bam, route them right to your money page.

Def. make a big button. Generally speaking your call to action should pop out. Design a button like this:

Photoshop: Create Web 2.0 Button | Photoshop Tutorials

or any other ps web 2.0 button tutorial

A call to action needs to stand out, it has to be the culmination of everything that is on your page. The first problem with it is that it doesn't even look like a button, I mean the mouse arrow doesn't even turn into the hand thingy, so many of your potential customers will probably give up trying to find it and hit Google instead.

and to add what everyone else said, you can use a few more chances to buy. You don't need to have just one button. Integrate some text links to buy in between paragraphs, especially at the top of the page. Someone might just want to buy and go, without reading the whole thing. Let them do it. Also make the image of Abreva a clickable link.

Plus, you've got Google adwords on there. The number one result for me was a link for Abreva. Plenty of people would see that add and click off. You should drop the adsense, or at least split test without it to see how it affects revenues.

it's weird, one of the hardest things for me with AM is that I need to realize I'm trying to sell something. I always find myself trying to keep my site as professional as possible, but BUY NOW! things just have seemed spammy to me.

by the "buy lander" do you mean on my page or the merchant page?

Try "Add to Cart" and use a bright color that doesn't scream "STOP!" subconsciously...orange works well.

And then once you grab some traffic for a while, switch it up and test another button. Then another and then another.

That's the only way you'll find out what works best (but definitely start with the orange "Add to Cart" first).

Something like this:

But without the big red arrows.

Dare Devil, is "Add to Cart" really advisable if you don't actually have a cart?

Probably not. I think he was emphasizing the color scheme/size/shape of the button more than anything else. That sort of Belcher-button-esque design has been proven to increase conversions.

EDIT: The little chat box that pops up as you exit your website references a discount for the "highest priced item in your shopping cart." If you don't have a shopping cart, you should probably consider editing that out.

You're going to have to get over this. Even if you don't use the exact words "Buy now" you'll have to start telling the reader what to do. A strong call to action will ensure that your button gets clicked. Make sure it's always active, and verby - nothing passive. We want the reader to do, not to think.

The whole purpose of your copy is to prime the reader to buy. Once they finish the copy, they will look for the buy button. You need to make sure they see it and click it, without any delay.

Buy now
Get it now
Place your order
Add to cart
Order now
etc. etc.

All right I took away the Adsense on the buy page, changed some content around and created a new button.

Why is there a white box surrounding the button and how do I get rid of it?

no, it's working for me at my office right now.. it should work

Abreva for Cold Sores

if you get it to work, you mentioned earlier that i should put my aff link in more places on the website instead of just that one page. what kind of techniques do you advise, like hyperlinking certain words/phrases in my content?

also i'm not even sure about my CTA button, it seems so cartoony for a medicinal type product.

although i guess i should shut up and just launch the campaign and see if it works or not...
