Anyway the whole problem we face is that the world is not this little heart of happiness our parents make it out to be when we are young, the world is still filled with killers, haters, rapers, whatever you want to call it, you could be killed by a bomb tonight, or shot in a store tomorrow almost anywhere you live, you just never know. But you cannot let that stop you from living your life and moving on, yes bad things like this happen and they should never happen but the positive things about this statement is that their are more Good people in the world then bad people, well at least I'd hope so. |

On Sunday 43 people died in bomb attacks in Iraq yet that barely makes the news now. One life is worth the same as another right? I don't know which is more fucked up: kids being checked for weapons at schools or people thinking that this could've been prevented if the kids at the college had guns. Some people will always want to kill for there own reasons, there's not much that can be done to stop the random psychopaths... but please don't elect them to run your country! Whether you support him or not, it's a fact that Bush's actions have been responsible for 1000s more deaths than this lone gunman. Just want to say, this is a great thread - It's really good to here (mostly) intelligent arguments and points of view and people disagreeing without getting into petty personal insults. (PS The quote thing is fucked for me on this thread - keeps wanting to quote an earlier post ????)

Living in the UK I'd just like to say those people who say our rate of violent crime shows anything about gun control are completely wrong. Pre Dunblane there weren't hordes of people carrying guns waiting to stop criminals in the act.
The recent rise in gun crime in this country is directly connected to the prohibition of Class A drugs and in particular the rise in the use of cocaine and crack cocaine. Gangs are arming and shooting each other due to the massive profits and dangers involved in selling these drugs. Whilst there have been plenty of shootings connected with such people, I have yet to see, since Dunblane, ANYTHING on the scale of this incident in the UK. There is a very real and obvious reason why guns are different to hammers or knives and should be thus more controlled if not banned outright. Trying to kill 30 people with a knife would not only be physically exhasting, it would also be very difficult. Two big guys could easily knock you down the moment you pulled it out and pummel you. You can't kill several people in a few seconds with a knife or hammer with the ease you can with a gun. I am *glad* to live in a society where guns are rare and largely owned by criminals and I do not consider rmyself any less 'free' because of it. This is a really terrible incident and I feel for the families of all those involved. |

Learning Hurts my Brain

I'd just like to add that:
The worst incidents of violence are bombs and in one case - box cutters. Guns aren't weapons of mass destruction. It's only when we create Gun Free Zones and a hostile environment to guns that mass killings happen. |
