The short version is that I never graduated from college. I'm 8 units short of my bachelors degree in criminal justice at San Diego State University.

I haven't taken a class since 2003 mainly because I got married and was working 60 hours a week since then, and wasn't motivated to drive an hour each way to the campus for evening classes after working a 10 hour day.

My wife's been on my ass to finish, and even though I will never have any use for the degree, I figure they've gotten this much of my money, I may as well get the piece of paper and graduate. So I reapplied and got accepted for the spring 2011 semester. I probably won't have the units I need until the end of 2011, as they don't have the courses available that I need every semester.

Shit, I haven't taken a test or written a paper in 7 years. I've all but forgotten how to take notes on a lecture. I'm 36 years old and will probably be in classes with a bunch of 21 year old punks (ok maybe a few hot chicks) just out of high school. I can't say I'm looking forward to wasting my time with this, but at least I can tell my children I got my degree so maybe they'll go to school and learn something.

Hell I got 1 credit left to get my business degree, and this is going back over 2 years now...I pretty much haven't got it to prove you don't need a piece of paper to be successful.

maybe I jumped the gun a little quickly as I don't fully know efeezy's situation. But if you're doing AM full-time and don't plan on working for someone else, I don't get it.

I thought of my old employer. Business owner, has never worked a day for anyone else (except the military). The guy went back to college part-time to complete his degree. I'm pretty sure he's still working on it. Total waste of his time if you ask me.

To some people a degree matters. If it's just 8 credits there's no reason not to. Whatever makes you more marketable.

to the person seeking the degree or to other people? If you've got a belief that you need a piece of paper that says you're successful to be successful, I think that's pretty sad. If you need a piece of paper to prove your worth to other people, I think that's pretty sad too.

Now if you want to go chase a job in the professional world, its essential and it makes sense.

I mean how it looks to other people. Doesn't have to be a 9-5, just in doing business all the people who control the money are college graduates. It's kind of weird to not be in that club.

I once thought I'd be doing AM full time forever, but that's severely limiting.

Hey man, I just did the same thing. Things are pretty similar here: haven't been to school since 2000, 34 years old, years being sucked dry of life and motivation in the corporate world, yadda yadda...

Thing is, I have always wanted to practice law, and after having mostly given up on that ten years ago, the fire is under my ass to do it again. Problem is, I have a ways to go...at least 3 semesters to graduate, and THEN try to get into law school.

My IM partners tell me I'm stupid...maybe so, but it's been a long-time goal that is going to happen this time.

Do it. You are 8 credits away. It's good to have for your own pride. Knock those little snot nose 21 year olds in the mouth if they get out of line.

if you have the time why not? it will always bug you if you don't. just another success on the road of life.

would be different if you were just starting, but since you are so close do it.

I'm in the same boat. I'm back at UCSD to finish up after a long time away.
Wife is nudging me too.
Kinda weird being one of the oldest in class. Writing papers is still a bitch to.

But overall, I enjoy it

you might as well finish, you doing even have a semester left to finish. i got a degree in criminal justice, meh. i shoulda went business, but then i may of never started in IM

I been had papers.

PM me if you any of y'all need me to crank out some papers and help you get those credits while you continue to sit back, relax, and jerk off with your fleshlights.

It is a good idea if you want to advise your kids to go to college, otherwise they'll hang it over your head in any argument. If it's just a year, go ahead and do it. Although I can tell you, college freshmen are some of the most annoying kids in the world.
