this insurance agency needs me to digitize all of their files (around 20,000) of them. what is the BEST scanner to do front / back scans quickly and efficiently for under $300 or so? in addition I would like to convert these files to pdfs. also what would a good program be to quickly access said files? thanks!

lol 300 dollars...

he proposed it and you accept based on 300 dollars without even knowing how to scan 20k files...

300 dollars is not a lot of money unless you live in a third world country or 15 years old

400 - 480 scans an hour... bro are u serious... are you this hard up for 300 dollars... lets just round to 500 an hour which is still a lot... you will be working 40 hours of mundane manual work... for 300 dollars... thats less then 10 dollars an hour... its 7.50 an hour...

you can get a job at mcdonalds and make more then this

He actually didn't say how much he was making, he was just looking to buy a scanner for under $300..

Ya'll need to read a little before flipping out on him.

A friend of mine was recently asked to turn a book of doctors names and numbers into a database so they could call on them, he asked me what OCR scanner he should buy.

I told him to call the publishing company and he bought a digital version of the book for $30, copy and paste into excel and the project was done.

Best advice since I've never bought a scanner like one of these, you should just read reviews of people that have purchased one. and talk to your public library or a co shared office complex -- they might have one that you can rent some time on and not have to buy one.

I never said how much I was being paid, so the above poster is right. And i'm 19. And I would definitely prefer a tech oriented job to working at mcdonalds :D

Like sumohax0r said if you're going to buy get on newegg/eggxpert and read reviews. Use the search filters for price and highest customer reviews. You'll narrow the choices down fast.

Squats: I own this one and have had great results with it: Newegg.com - Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 PA03586-B005 CCD 600 x 600 dpi Sheet-Fed Duplex Scanner

20 pages per minute DUPLEX. Get the one with the Rack2Filer version. Look at the reviews on newegg. I've worked with several accounting firms that used this model for their day to day operations as well. Well, worth the extra $150 since you more then double your speed.

You've obviously found a 'need' that needs to be filled. Now, find yourself some other small businesses, that need the same work done and your investment pays off multiple times.

Locally market your services, hire a couple high school students and you have your very own small business that can earn enough money to build a slush fund for affiliate marketing.

Enjoy!

Bullzip could do the pdf part and it is free software. Works with any scanner

Autofeed scanners are a bit of a problem. You need to be able to say all the pages got scanned. Not sure how you could.

What about some fairly high end used autofeed scanner? Clean the pickup wheels and do some tests to see if it all gets scanned. Ebay?

What do you mean I need to be able to say all the pages got scanned? I can put 20 docs in at a time with that, and it converts to pdfs for me. seems more efficient.
