Yes because back in the good ole days you used to be able to drunkenly get away with chucking beer bottles at the heads of police officers.

The only difference is now..videos are taken of events and spread like wildfire. Whereas back in the day the kids would go home crying due to tear gas...and their parents would tell them "serves you right for being an idiot"

For sure. The greedy media has always been the problem (now there are lots of wannabes on YouTube) in all of these riot situations. I suppose these peace officers should put themselves at further risk by gently restraining drunken morons so they don't get a "boo boo."

How many people are dumb enough to linger when you see hundreds of men in combat gear coming at you? That kind of stupidity gets no love from me.

THIS. We had riot police coming after us every other weekend in college. If you want to avoid a beating don't act like a drunken fucking idiot and stand there in the streets when they start coming. This isn't Kent State, just fucking go inside.

This is not the "reality of the country" right now. This is one incident. This seems to be a really fucked up incident and the cops were way out of line.

But in no way does this represent what's going on in other parts of the US.

And I agree with the above posters that despite the fact that the cops were coming down the street in riot formation for apparently no good reason, the students COULD have just gone inside or walked away. But instead they need to test the limits of their rights. If I were there, I guarantee you I would not have gotten maced, tackled, etc. because I would have gotten the fuck out of there as soon as I saw police in a fucking line walking down the street. Is that "fair" or "right" that I would have to make the decision to get the fuck out of there even though perhaps I hypothetically was just hanging around peacefully with friends? No. But that's fucking life. These students need to make better decisions. The cops were out to cause trouble and the students knew it.
