A DMCA scammer tried to scam me very authentically, followed up by intimidation and even death threats:

Who would be stupid enough to full for that shit? Its hardly much of a domain scam, if thats one of the most important posts on your blog, im glad i've never bothered to read it

haha, so someone commented that they would normally sent it certified via snailmail and not email.

So yeah, for a couple bucks and a copy/paste letter, your telling me you'd sign it over if I snail mailed you?

Hmmm, is it really that easy to scam someone? If your domain is worth thousands to you, wouldn't you hire an attorney?

No, I wouldn't have handed it over, but if I received a snail mail and a professional sounding phone call I'd definitely be worried. I'd try to contact the legal department at the company in question first, and then might hire a lawyer depending on the domain's value in question (If it's only worth $50 I'm not going to spend $500+ on a lawyer's advice.)

Even if you get served by DMCA it will never be scary it wil just be too expensive

I just read this on digg....congrats on getting front paged. He's one of the better scammers I've heard of - at least his email wasn't full of spelling mistakes. He probably ripped the template from one of many DMCA notices he's received.

Thanks for sharing. While some of us take for granted that you should always properly investigate such inquiries, some people are much more trusting, and the message can never be repeated enough.

You need to be careful, and you should assume something is BS until you have been able to completely prove otherwise.
