chinese inmates literally "pay their debts" to society. That's pretty awesome compared to US inmates who cost society money.

Yep - apart from the fact that a lot of the inmates are there for heinous crimes like making jokes about the government.

The principal is good though.

I know a guy who did some time for drug smuggling in Japan, then served the rest of his sentence over in the UK. He said UK prisons were like a holiday camp compared to Japanese ones, but they were also more dangerous / violent.

I did time in Japan, I've only seen American prison on tv but I would of rather transferred to an American prison if I was allowed to. Was only allowed to bathe twice a week, wasn't allowed to speak to other inmates, had to ask permission to do everything even lay down. Not to mention I slept on the floor (sleeping mat) for nearly three years. I now have lower back problems and I'm not even 30 yet. Anyone who brags about going to prison hasn't done time in the Tochigi Prefecture.

Chinese people at least realize they're not too good to do crap jobs. Nope.. Americans would rather not have a job than clean the restroom in McDonalds.. Its actually not a bad idea because he generating revenues. Although he mentioned that he get punished physically if he doesn't meet the daily quota which I think is not right.
