Question Alcohol laws regarding kegs/underage drinking in CT

So I'm holding a college graduation/birthday party at my house in a few weeks. We were thinking of getting a keg because they are a lot cheaper than buying 30 racks. It is going to be a mixed crowd, some over 21 some under- I am under the age of 21 and the lease is in my name. Obviously someone over 21 will be getting the keg and his name will be on the deposit.

In the unlikely event that the police show up, whats the worst that can happen? Would it be any better (for us) if we had 30 racks instead of a keg in terms of legal consequences? I know some states have certain rules and special consequences for underage drinking. I was wondering if anyone knew what those would be for CT.

-Chris

ct...just as nuts as mass.so anyone who's name was on the keg would be responsible. I wouldn't risk, state police will easily go after the owner of keg.

Depends on how serious they want to push the issue , but ct an mass are turning up the heat for sure.

I was reading up on the keg registration laws and it looks like they require the keg to be registered with the buyers name, address of where the keg will be, drivers license number, phone number, etc.

Whats to stop my friend who would be purchasing the keg from putting his address down when it would never be there (my place the whole time)? If the police randomly show up at his house, they can't demand that he allow them in to make sure the keg is where it was supposed to be.

The issue would be if they bust the party at my house and find the keg there. Which in all likelyhood would not happen. There's only going to be 15 or so people there. The party would extend over 2 days (party friday night, pass out, get up, bbq, drink some more

I never will understand how you can be considered old enough to marry, have kids, drive, vote, fight and die for your country (or for the leaders anyway)... but not old enough to decide whether or not to consume certain beverages.

Fucked up, but not as fucked up as laws about other drugs.

How the fuck can they target parents? Aren't you legally responsible for your own actions from 18 onwards?

when the police show, run. I uses to do that and be successful 50% of the time.

if your door is shut then they don't have probable cause to enter. they would have to get a seacrh warrant unless they see kids drinking. so keep your doors shut and make sure to regulate the outside also.

cops come only for complaints. so keep the noise down and the people inside and dont let them piss on your neighbors rose bushes, that will get the cops there everytime. i

Or just move to Canada. You're legal at 19 here - and the beer is better. :P

Dude, the cops won't care who's name is on the keg... It's all about who owns or is responsible for the household. Also, EVERY person over 21 at that party is technically responsible for all the under-21-year-olds.

LOL, we used to card the people that walked in to our parties in LBC... Underage girls were not allowed.

Actually, according to CT law it seems they will track down who bought the keg and they will be responsible. The "social host rule" really only comes into affect if someone dies at the party if I read the rules correctly.

BYA- yup. I watched that one video on google. If the police show up, I'll step outside and shut the door behind me. Everyone will be in the basement anyway for the most part and the shades will be drawn on the windows in the house. I will most likely stay reasonably sober for the party just to make sure everything is under control. I also plan on leaving a note for the neighbors to let them know that I will be having a get together of sorts and that if at any time they feel inconvenienced, they can call me on my cell phone and I will take care of the matter right away.

I'm really not that worried about it but I'm in a fraternity and we go through a lot of planning for our parties to make sure we have our asses covered if anything happens so I'm just taking the same precautions.

drbones has a spectacular aura about
If I were you, I'd get rid of the headache and just grab 30 flats of beer.

I've thrown a few keggers in my day (up here in Canada mind you)... and the biggest problem with keg parties.. especially if you are indoors, is that people are a helluva lot more likely to spill from a cup then from a can... they walk around all drunk and spill shit everywhere....

Last kegger i threw, i mopped the floor about 15 times and it was still sticky for a LONG time... I'd just get cans and fuck having to deal with the problem of somebody getting in shit for supplyin a keg.

Im in RI and i know that the police bend on it a little more here. When i was in MA, the cops were nuts and will screw anyone involved.

RI is more lenient because of the shitload of colleges here, providence is all students.

Not sure about CT, but i got pulled over my a statey when i was going to the casino once and he was NOT nice.

Or even better, to Europe*. You're legal at 18 (but you only need to be 16 for buying and drinking beer). But the main point is you can get real tasteful beer.

just let your neighbors know you are having a party for some college friends and you let you know if you are causing too much noise before calling in a complaint. I used to have a huge summer bash at my parents lake house every year- i think I had upwards of 120 people once - I only had the police called once (and at the smallest party) by some old bitch who had just moved in next door. The cops just came down, asked me to keep the noise down (they did ask for my ID, luckily I was over 21 at that point) and then left.

As long as you keep the noise down and inside after dark and have a place for the keg stands that isn't visable from the neighbors, you should be fine. If your neighbors are cool then don't worry at all unless you can see your backyard from the street.

whoevers name is on the keg gets busted. cases are much more safe. Also when you get a keg make sure you attach the piece of paper thing they give you really well. its required to be on the top of the keg but the top of the keg always gets wet and it falls off, if its not on the top of the keg when the police arrive they take it and theres usually a ticket for having to take it(i think thats a statewide thing, but most states have it).
