Orly OMW to better health and weight.

Its been almost 2 weeks now since I've changed my eating lifestyle.

It was bad, Fast food, cheese everything + ice cream and tons of other shit that makes me sick to think about now.

I decided going super strick was not going to work, so I just cleaned my shit up, Now if I do go out and eat, its a wrap and veggies or a chicken salad.

I was eating out 3 meals a day, so I went to my Local Vitamin Shoppe and picked up some really lean protein powder, then the market to get some frozen fruits, strawberries, blueberrys, cherrys, raspberries.

So now I'm having 3 protein shakes (w/blended in frozen fruits for flavor) a day which are about 140 calories, 1g fat, and 15g carbs each.

and then I'll eat one meal usually lunch or dinner consisting of tuna, chicken or turkey, plus veggies or sliced tomatos.

I calculated I went from an average of 2500-3000 calories a day to right around ~1200 a day, and I feel more energetic now then before.

--------------------------------

I haven't seen too much of a weight drop, maybe 1 or two pounds, but I feel much better, and have a much better sleep schedule.

This week I'm going to add in exercise (and increase my daily calories), Right now I walk a decent amount in my daily life, but its no where near enough to consider a workout.

Going to start out with running cardio and light weights, I'm not going for super fast amazing results because I know that shit just doesn't work, so I'm going for a lifestyle I can live for the rest of my life.

Anyone wanna join in?

BTW I'm 22 years old, 5'9 and 253lbs.

I'll update this thread every 15 days with my progress.

we had a competition every 3 months for a bit over a year, but less and less people joined and it became a pain in the ass to maintain + the forums got spammed to fuck. if anyone wants a snap at directing it i'll hand over the domain.

I've lost about 10kg in a month with a low carb diet + cold exposure.

It's a cliche saying, but ever so true: "you are what you eat."

Eating right + a little exercise goes a LONG way. I've seen it transform friends right before my eyes. Good luck with your goals!

All these responses and no one tells this guy he's eating far too few calories now?

1200 cals a day is basically starving yourself. Your body goes into starvation mode and you end up with a low metabolism and possibly other health problems.

I don't think what you're doing now is healthy at all.

I've upped my calorie intake to 2000 a day. (starting to workout)

And its not really starving myself since I only need ~2000 to maintain my current body weight, its only a 800 calorie deficit, and I get pliantly of protein, veggies and a good multi vitamin.

I'm having 3 very filling shakes a day and a meal, I'm never hungry, but it is more difficult to eat 2000c a day when its not junk food. I'm probably eating more then I was before.

Watch Fathead on hulu or netflix. The guy lost weight by eating a calorie restricted fast food diet.

I lost like 40 pounds in 3 months. 2k Calories a day is alright, 1.2k is to little. Make sure you get some cardio in there. I ran 2+ hours a day, to lose my weight.

Edit: Pro tip - Lose weight slowly not like how I did it. And LIFT weights or you going to be skinny-fat. Losing to much weight to quickly probably means your going to burn a shit ton of muscle, something you probably don't want to do.

Awesome man, people dont realize how eating good makes you feel 100x better. I have mentioned it a few times before on here, but t-nation.com is the best weight training site online IMO, check it out if you want to get more serious with the weights.

Either way congrats man.

That really depends on your activity level

He has to create a calorie deficiency to burn fat. He's most likely not very active and 1200 calls isn't low enough to send him into "starvation mode".

yes it does work.. with the right lifestyle change.

If you're making a big change in your life now is NOT the time to hold back.

You can get addicted to drinking 3 shakes a day and some light cardio and think you made a Giant change in your life or you can push yourself and get addicted to hitting the gym with intensity 5-6 days a week and half an hour of cardio daily, eat your weight in protein daily, keep your intake calories less than your putting in with 6-7 meals throughout the day(can include a couple protein shakes). You'll lose a pound or 2 a week and in a couple months you wont be recognizable. You will have a made an amazing transformation that you now just need to maintain or take to the next level your choice.

Just remember 1-2 hours of pain for a whole lifetime of pride

You'd be surprised how many cals you burn sitting on a chair all day and sleeping at night. 1200 is probably way too low to start a diet with, especially because you'd like to reduce your calories even further later on in your diet or else you'll plateau. I think it's a large quick reduction in your calories that will push your body into starvation mode.

Calories.com

But I'm only as good as the info I've heard .. so I could always be wrong.

u don't need that much protein. 3 shakes. that's all a myth. there are vegan nfl players with more muscle than 7 WF'ers put together. reduce animal products in your diet where you can. eat whole grains ONLY. nothing refined. no sugars if possible. and your body and health will change.

and you won't need to count calories because the reduction will be inevitable.

but more importantly, your body's response to food will change.

^^ Good advice.

Think of it like this- Your body has momentum, all your momentum has been a full speed oil tanker to fat fuck island. You have to first slow down the oil tanker then reverse its direction, wont happen over night but you are making great progress. Keep it up.

I think we kind of discussed this in PM's, but I went vegan and got really sick once. I have a friend who is vegan and he gets sick like once a month. Personally, I think vegan is no bueno. Our bodies need animal fat.

I've been vegan over 2 months now and feel better than ever, down 15 lbs. Please don't turn this into some animal fat debate and ruin OPs thread, my vegan thread had enough of that lol. Pm me if you want to discuss further or chat though. You can check my food log here too of my first 30+ days Going vegan. Follow me as I experience the vegan lifestyle. – Dan the Vegan

Haven't updated it lately because I've been busy with biz but I got over 30 days of food log in there which is nice to look back on

Vegans who get sick and blame it on veganism are doing it wrong. Do your research. And if you'd like to try it again hit me up

Except for the fact that at 250 pounds he needs well over 1,200 calories just to properly maintain his internal functions. 1,200 calories is nowhere near enough and regardless if he says he isn't ever hungry now, there is a high chance in the end he will put himself in a starvation mode.

At OP, at your weight you should be fine at 1,800 calories. You'd probably be fine at 1,600 but if you just started aim for 1,800.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but how about going vegetarian for a couple of months. It'll help you get to being thinner much quicker, and once you're there, it may be easier to maintain, rather than having to actually lose weight.

agree that 1200 calories isn't enough - you will burn muscle if its that low. Find out what your maintenance calorie amount is and cut that by 20%.

Right because fast weight loss is good for most people in the long-term.

Losing weight is so fucking easy.

1. Don't drink calories. (Unless it's a protein shake or occasional beer etc.)
2. Don't eat a shit ton of white carbs (bread, pasta, chips, cookies, etc.)
3. Eat as little sugar as possible. Don't eat sweets, ice cream, etc.
4. Eat as much veggies and meat (the leaner the better) as you want.
5. Drink a lot of water (you will get used to it and crave it if you don't now)

Do these 5 simple things and you will lose weight. No need to even count calories. Throw in some exercise and you'll lose weight even faster. Easy as pie. Once you stop eating crap your body will stop craving it (if it does now).

Sure, if you're doing it by starving yourself. Mind linking to one page from a respected source that shows going vegetarian for a few months is bad for you long term?

Btw, thanks for the neg rep <3

Do I need to show you articles from respected sources that show that rapid weight loss is bad for you in the long term?

UPDATE:

Ok so its been 15 days, I still haven't started exercising because I'm a lazy faggot, but it really is on my TOP todo list.

Weighed in this morning at 247lbs so a loss of 6lbs in 15 days. I know it could be so much more if I exercised so I'm really kicking my self in the ass for this one.

I'll post again in 15 days.

UPDATE: Down 18lbs

Its been 2 months 2 days since I started eating better, I had a rough week with a lot of drinking (when friends came into town) and actually gained 3 pounds even while eating healthy.

So that brings me to ~2.25lbs lost per week. even with that rough week where I gained.

Started exercising 30 min 3 times a week, trying to increase a little more each time, but so out of shape its hard but getting easier.

Starting weight 253lbs Current 235lbs // Will update again, whenever.

tim ferriss, who wrote the 4 hr wrk week... the guy has a diet/exercise regimen on his site....

i have been a college athlete. i have exercised for my whole life. blah blah blah.

i have never had a physical response anything near what i've had by following his method.

never.

some perspective on what i'm talking about.

when i was in college i could rep two plates 9x and run 2 miles in a tick or two over 11 mins.

i look fitter right now.

Yea I've tried a few different diets myself and nothing really worked until this one, basically I just eat as little Carbs as possible, my diet is mostly low calorie low carb protein shakes, Turkey Wraps (some even with bacon) omelettes with sliced tomato's. salads etc, no pasta, no sugar, no bread. that's about my only restraints, and I just don't eat as much as i used too.

I am on a D1 college track/XC team and I can tell you that this 15 minute BS is a complete waste of time. What is it going to accomplish? Admittedly I don't know much about running for weight loss, but running ~2 miles a day isn't going to do shit. You need to slowly increase, throw in harder workouts twice a week. Get up to 30 miles per week, then 40. That's about half of what I run. It's not nearly as hard as it sounds and you will feel great every day and be sleepy enough to get to bed at night.

Congrats and keep it up. Also, forget counting calories for weight loss. It's pointless. I went lo-cal from beginning of May until mid-July. 6 days a week at the gym, didn't lose an ounce. Cut out sugars and grains, 6 pounds down in a month and 15 to go! Read this book:

Running to lose weight is pretty inefficient.

Extremely rough math, but based on the calorie burning data measured by Syracuse researchers, an average guy would have to spend ~5 hours running ~33 miles at a 9:30/mile pace just to lose 1 pound.

What sumo has accomplished is the perfect example of why focusing on food intake is the better option for weight loss.

The main benefits of exercise aren't to directly burn calories.

counting calories it's just an obsession. Find motivation to do some exercise. Find somebody to play with, football, tennis, basketball, anything....this way you exercise and have fun in the same time
