Fuckyeah 1&1 Offering .COM's @ $0.99? How?

Ok, I get the fact that its for the first year only. However, their second year onward is still only $9.99. How the hell can they offer this? Its not a promo like how GoDaddy runs through a coupon. So, how the fuck in hell are they offering it at just miser rates? What's the catch?

What if domainers just want to register. What could be their action plan then? Is that a risk that they are willing to take?

Who knows how they handle domainers. They probably just wear that loss for all the exposure they'll get to the Mom&Pop businesses who also want hosting.

They don't do anything because it's all priced in to the scheme. You know.. cost of doing business. No wonder you write articles for $1.

They make it near impossible to cancel a domain once you've registered it. And their customer support is a joke, probably the worst in the industry.

Can you imagine an inspiring domainer using 1&1? LMAO

Month they buy 1200 domains, 13 months later their mail carrier is literally sick of bringing them the collections letters.

If anyone from 1&1 is reading, FUCK YOU. WE DON'T LIKE YOU. I'll never forget being sent to collections for a domain name. How ridiculous.

??? you go to cancel.1and1.com and cancel it. What's so hard about that?

I've probably had 300 domains w/ those guys over the years and the only issue I've ever had is it sometimes takes awhile on the setup whereas namecheap is practically immediate. I'm surprised more people don't talk about 1&1 when it comes to domains because they're almost always the cheapest. Have phone support too, though it's always someone from India.

And to op - no, they've never limited me on their promos.

If you actually read the offer you'd see it only applies if you have their hosting. Their hosting comes with a "free" domain. Additional domains start at .99 if you prepay a year's hosting. There's an upcharge for each additional domain you add to the hosting ($2.95 if memory serves) so your 99 cent .com ends up costing over $36.

A while ago I fell for their "free" hosting because I didn't read it fully. Basically they give you a domain and 6 months free, then you pay $15 a month for the remaining 6 months you have the "free" domain or they send you to collections for $180.

Yes, they do those ignorant pieces of shit. Years ago I setup a little 5 page website for my aunt's law practice and used them. Later she joins a firm, let's personal site expire and a year or two later I'm looking over my credit report wondering "what's this fucking collection account for 26 dollars?!"

They see this as an investment, betting on a good average of second year renewals.

I think most domainers would be willing to pay a higher price just to not deal with 1&1. Last time I used 1&1 for domains, they had no bulk domain management tools. Every domain setting had to be changed one at a time, even unlocking and getting Transfer/EPP codes to transfer out. They also kept rebilling me for something until I reported my card lost/stolen, then sent me to collections.
