Wow, I see people talking all kinds of trash about anything and everything others find offensive. This is one guy among countless. What are they going to do, jail them all? It's like suing people for downloading music or movies. Once in a while I hear about those cases where they are sued for ridiculous amounts of money, meanwhile millions and millions continue downloading. It's so stupid.

As a libertarian I find these cases interesting because the sheer amount of emotional discomfort that these people are going through is far, far more than usual in "freedom of speech" aggressions.

I believe that this stupid, fucktard of a troll isn't doing anything legally wrong, and to stop him from saying these things is wrong because it limits basic freedoms.

But on the other hand if he did it to me, I'd literally seek the Death penalty... Lawfully or not!

God these people just have no sense of decency, so I guess a kind of law is needed to stop them whenever they happen. I hate that though, & I would rather the bereaved family be allowed to do whatever with them they will and be fully pardoned for it.

Well, officially I've always said I'm a libertarian on WF. The fact is though that I yearn for freedom as we all should, and Anarchy is more free than being a libertarian, especially in this very socialist country.

I agree with a lot of what gets said around here about anarchy and especially AnCap, but I do know that humanity's never even come close to realizing such a society since way back before Christ, if ever...

Since the line is apparently drawn between the two at the complete dissolution of government, I guess in this day and age with the vast majority of these sad humans needing to be coddled in a socialist republic, I guess I'd choose a teeny, tiny government for humanity. At least until they are more self-reliant and we've seen the last of people depending on the government for anything like welfare or other entitlements. (Yes, at all in any form. They all have to be against it.)

This anorexic government though; It can't be a republic. Everything goes wrong when a human in power decides to do something that his or her constituents didn't expressly ask for.

I'd like to see all government decisions made by an OPEN SOURCE peer-to-peer system modeled after the bitcoin, where people have "settings" for government spending and policies, and since the government would be much, much smaller, they wouldn't have to spend all day every day reading up on the issues to make informed decisions. Maybe just nudge their settings once or twice a month...

That's the only way to have a government and give the real power to the people. -Sadly, Americans don't appear to even be ready for this yet. They'd all vote to give themselves money or something else stupid like that. They're corrupt so how can the system not be? They wouldn't enjoy a good system.

So it always comes back to the old saying; People get the government they deserve. (Except libertarians, naturally.)

Depends on your culture. This sort of behaviour has never been accepted to be "free speech" under the UK legal system - we've never had a first amendment equivalent.

If anything, we're becoming more "free" due to the tort reform that's in the pipeline. Our libel laws have, in the past, been used to silence genuine, meritable free speech (such as journalists being sued for exposing drug companies' lies). That needs fixing.

However, I don't think this sort of stuff should be protected under free speech. I'd probably categorise it under "hate speech" - something which has no other purpose than to cause upset to the person it's directed at.

Vulnerable people need protecting from bullies, and I'd class those who have lost a child recently as being vulnerable. To those who have said "man up" or whatever, come back and tell me that after you've had kids. This isn't about someone calling your girlfriend ugly.

FWIW, I wouldn't send him to prison for it though. I don't see what it will achieve. I'd make him attend the scenes of road accidents where kids had been killed, and see how he felt about it then.


Are we less free than you? Yes and no. We have far too much surveillance (something I've written about in other posts), but then again, as a marketer I'm FAR more worried about falling foul of US law than UK law. I know a lot of UK businesses who won't do any business with the US, because of the legal problems they could run into. Things you'd get a stiffly worded letter from the government for in the UK, you go to jail for in the US.
