CashDoctor has a spectacular aura about
Great thread went on a "I need to start juicing" kick earlier this week.

After reading this etc.. I am thinking about this bad boy Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor

For those who have a Breville does it do good with wheat grass and other leafy greens. I could get into knocking back some wheat grass shots.

Thanks!

Update:

Received the spinning part and the Vitamix is back in business.

Rep said on the phone that the part that broke is designed to do so to keep the motor from breaking. Only had to remove the melted metal from the stub with the FREE replacement part.

I posted the benefits I experienced before.

Keep in mind that was when all I did was drink vegetable juice all day. Didn't touch anything else for 24 hrs.

After reading this thread last week, I told my wife "Hey, I'm dropping $xxx on a juicer". Then she told me we already have one from her family, sitting in the basement in which we've never used.. We took a look at it and it was some (I assumed) shitty juicer from some old fuck Jack Lalanne.. So for the fuck of it we went out n' bought some fruits/veges and tried it out..

We've been using 2 apples, 2 oranges, a peach, kale, and 2 small cucumbers to make our drink(s).. Turns out pretty fucking good, and the best part is, our 22 month old daughter loves the shit. She literally asks for "juice" every day..

That's her, drinking that slime green shit up. Good shit, get into the habit of this stuff.

[QUOTE=m0rtal;1483600]Holy shit a juicing thread on WF lol...I haven't started juicing full time yet but since going vegan 6 months ago I've looked into it quite a bit.

Firstly, some of the healthiest stuff to juice is greens. Kale, collard greens, spinach, wheatgrass, etc.. I just had my first wheatgrass shot last week and I swear I thought I smoked a bag of grass or something after a few hours. I started giggling like a retard at one point and was like wtf is this shit. That's how good it makes you feel. I need to either start growing my own when I decide on a juicer or order some flash frozen. Do not buy the shitty pasteurized ones, juices or powders. If it's not fresh, especially for wheatgrass, it's shit. Also try to buy organic. Or at least, check this list for some of the dirtier and cleaner non-organic foods: Executive Summary | EWG's Shopper's Guide to Pesticides | Environmental Working Group | EWG.org

DO NOT get one of those shitty centrifugal juicers that rotate at high RPMs. They cause a lot of heat and end up killing the enzymes (in short without getting scientific on you). I actually made that mistake and ended up with a shitty one for now."

I totally agree with u bro. But juicer i thought was only meant for getting juices from fruits, never used it though for vegetable

Very interesting thread, looks like I need to get into juicing. But doesn't it get expensive? I've been seeing recipes of 4 carrots, 4 apples, 2 pears, etc all in 1 serving?! That grocery bill is going to add up quick!

is juicing really better than blending? I mean, don't you waste a lot of the fruit/vegetable when you juice?

I'm starting a juice fast for 10 days on Monday. Buddy that has been into this for years is letting me use one of his spare juicers for that time frame.

Thought: In order to get the grocery bill down, I'm going to hit up the local Farmers market as well as find out where the local restaurants buy their stuff.

In downtown Dallas for instance is a place called 'The Red Barn', right across the street from the regular Farmers Market. You can buy 5 onions at the Farmers market for $3 vs. walking across the street and buying the entire fracking bag for $10.

Nice man, keep her on the juice! She's getting a nutritional leg up on every other kid her age in this country, that's fucking great.

Yeah it can, about $10 per glass but each glass can count as 2 servings like breakfast + lunch. Wouldn't you be willing to spend that on something that'll make you feel incredible/give your body what it needs? Very worth it and there are ways to save cash.

Yeah you do waste a good part of it but there are ways to get more out of the left over material.

Good idea, farmers markets are great for getting cheap produce.

Blending keeps in the soluble fiber.

Juicing removes the soluble fiber but keeps in the insoluble fiber.

Blending nutrition > Juicing nutrition.

Blending drinkability < Juicing drinkability.

Wow, I can't believe I missed this thread. I am vegetarian and a good part of my diets constitute Juices. Earlier my juices didn't include such a large variety of veggies, but as the availability has increased manifolds here in the recent years, I have a secret recipes I have been using for the past 2 years.

- Carrot - 1
- Radish - 1/4 (Add the root as it is, blanch the leaves for a few seconds, strain and then add them to the juicer)
- Cucumbers - 1 Large or 2 small
- Green apples - 2
- Oranges - 2
- Peaches - 1
- Kiwi - 1 medium sized
- Celery - 1 medium sized piece
- Pineapple - 1 Large piece
- Tomato - 1 Small
- Dragon Fruit - 1 Medium (Great for lowering cholestrol)
- Strawberries - (The taste is amazing at the end)

Add all of the above to the juicer (you can blend stawberries, pineapple and apples and add them seperately to get the extra pulp while retaining the goodness. It's important that the other ingedients be juiced and not blended to filter out the seeds)

- Once you're done, if the juice is not sweet enough, add a spoonful of honey.
- Season with some salt (optional)
- And finally crush some roasted cumin seeds and add it the juice.

Experience Juice heaven at it's best!

Do get back here on how you found it.

Please note, the quantities I mentioned should make 2 to3 glasses of Juice and if you decide to blend half the ingredients, the quantity may increase even further.

So if you want to test it out, lower the quantities but retain the proportions.

Also, cumin seeds have no replacement. It's a must for the nice punch to your juice. Make sure you grind them smoothly, as you won't like them if they're coarse.

Also, if the cumin texture is not to your taste, you can add the powder to a small bowl of water, let it rest for a few minutes and then strain the water. Add this water to your juice, so you get the flavor minus the texture.

You can also squeeze a lime (depending on your taste buds) - but if ether of the apples, oranges or the kiwi is sour - you can skip the lime altogether.

Is there a nutritional or flavor reason to filter out those seeds?

Blendtec and Vitamix blenders will pulverize just about any seeds that you throw at them.

After reading this thread, and watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, I bought a juicer on Amazon (use Amazon for everything). Went with the Omega VRT350. I liked the slower speed because it's quiet and after watching the 30 comparison video someone posted between the Breville and the Omega... that Breville tomato juice as just nasty looking. After seeing that, and thinking how much I like tomatos, no Breville here.

Seriously considering the Reboot that Joe talks about in the movie. I'm built like that truck driver - Phil - only shorter. 5 foot 8 inches and 375 pounds. If I don't do something soon, I'm not going to live long enough to see grandkids.

I don't mean to pick on you but I'm going to use your recipe as an example...

Not counting everything in there, just the 2 apples, 2 oranges, strawberries, peach and some pineapple you're looking at about 120grams of sugar!

To put that in perspective this is 110grams of sugar in a mcdonalds thickshake...

Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's not bad for you to consume that much sugar. Most fruit has about a half half ratio of fructose to sucrose. Fructose has the lowest GI of the sugars, but sucrose is just table sugar. You're spiking the hell out of your blood sugar and insulin levels.

Then you say if it's not sweet enough add honey? holy shit son! if it was any sweeter there'd be a wanted poster of you down at the candy store.

If you watch the movie, he is using primarily Kale etc. etc. and only some apples are used to sweeten the concoction.

Good call on watching the amount of fruit you consume...

Spice... I like a lot of hot foods. Can you add peppers (red or jalepeno) to your juice? Has anyone tried that? Results? Taste? Or would it be best to just add a drop or two of Tabasco?

you can juice peppers, I juice onions, spicey as hell.

Let me know if you're interested in doing the reboot, I might start with a 10 day one and if it goes well go to 30. So it might be cool to have someone doing it along with me. If anyone else is interested. Hit me up as well.

Ive added chilis and ginger to juices. It can be really intense depending on your recipe.

I'm planning on doing a Reboot. Little nervous since it's a huge lifestyle change, but it's either do something (Reboot, other diet, bariatric surgery) or die young. So, I choose "Do something".

Yea, I think you should transition into the reboot, start eating less and replacing a few meals a day with juice. After a few weeks start the straight up juice fast. You don't want to throw your system into shock. I'm eating one solid meal a day and 2 juice meals now. I'll probably do this for a week or so.
Good luck man, we're the same height but I'm only about 212, I have about 35lbs to lose. I'm 35, I have a 4 year old son and I've been feeling like shit lately chasing after him. I want to be around to see his kids.

Just hooked up the Breville 800JEXL from Williams-Sonoma.
Much faster juicer than my last one. Easy cleanup too. Solid machine.

Seriously considering the Reboot that Joe talks about in the movie. I'm built like that truck driver - Phil - only shorter. 5 foot 8 inches and 375 pounds. If I don't do something soon, I'm not going to live long enough to see grandkids.

Keep us posted on how it goes. Daily logs or something. Weigh yourself at the same time every day to see if you notice any weight changes.

Just wanted to add to this that if you're really over weight the fat will melt off you fast as fuck even with no exercise. Doing some exercise daily will only improve your results.

I do the master cleanse a couple times a year, and its lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. It's strangely good, and because of the cayenne...

I am tempted to get a juicer now.

Sorry, couldn't resist Remember that preventative care is ALWAYS going to be cheaper than reactive care. Spend a few hundred bucks to prevent that heart attack vs. a few thousand to fix the damage after it occurs. So kudos to you for taking action and saving your own life.

Inspired by this thread I kind of started yesterday with the Odwalla Superfood stuff you get at the grocery store. Yesterday evening a friend showed me how to put that green recipe together which helped out a great deal. Gave me some overall advice and his main point was that if you can survive past the first 3 days - you'll be fine.

Today is officially Day 1 of the 'System reboot' juice diet!!!

So far so good and while I'm a 'little' hungry its not hard core hunger pains. Trying to stay ahead of it by drinking some juice and water every so often.

For dinner with the family I'm going to be doing a can of tomato soup so I have something to eat while sitting down with them. Would be weird not eating with wife and kids!

Been watching some of the Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead Youtube videos from other people which are inspiring.

One of the things I worried about was not having enough protein but according to calculations you are actually getting MORE then you need. So no worries about major muscle loss (vs. Fat).

Let's see if I can make it past Day 3!!!

P.S. If anyone wants to chat on skype, so we help keep each other motivated, feel free to send me an IM and I'll add you.

I have done a 40 day master cleanse, so you guys doing juice fasts better nut up. The first 3 days are when your body revolts and detoxes, so if you can make it past those, all that is left is your psychological craving for bad food.

Good job man!

Yeah you can get tons of protein from vegetables, all the amino acids you need . If you are worried about muscle loss the main thing you'd want to do is actually work out your muscles, this helps retain more mass while losing fat since your body usually gets rid of muscle first THEN fat.

So you'll lose muscle mass no matter what, regardless of protein intake, unless you're doing some working out. Keep it up man, if other people's experiences are any indication you'll get hooked on nothing but juice and have a hard time going back.

Id love to get a juicer but with out a supply of affordable produce id never do it. Every grocery store here sells apples for like 3/lb thats 1.50 per fucking apple. I figue it would cost a fortune to get this going. Im pissed enough i dont have enough fruit just for eating let alone juicing. It seems like socicty has fucked us into bad eating habbits by pricing us out of food.

Time to find some fruit carts... The "farmers" market here is nich organic so its like 2.50 a apple.

Asian stores are sometimes a good place to find cheaper fruits/vegetables/greens if you have any in your area.

$0.79/pound is the cheapest that I ever see bananas at my local supermarket, but they are $0.29/pound every day at one of the asian stores.

+1 to this.

Ethnic grocery stores and farmers markets. If it helps to go out of town for a bit, you can stock up for the week provided you have refrigerator space.

Food keeps better in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container, so plastic bags with ties help them stay fresh longer.

before you go on your juicing adventures:

you should do a colon & parasite cleanse (not that am crap):
use this Organic India Psyllium Whole Husk -- 12 oz - Vitacost
&
this http://clarkia.biz/Clarkia-c64/

then, as mentioned above: Master Cleanse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I don't get it. Most of you guys complaining about high food prices don't think twice when you pay $7 for a beer at the bar, and you'll buy 6+ beers in one night without feeling any guilt (except for the hangover the next day). But when an organic apple costs $1 more per pound than hormone-shot apples, you bring on your jew-jitsu lol

Get your shit together people.

Agreed 100%!

However, shopping for yesterdays ingredients came to almost exactly $15 which made me 1 gallon/1 days worth of juice. Compare that to your normal grocery bill.

The local Asian stores are always an option, however, if you are close to a metropolitan area they usually have suppliers for your local Restaurants, cafeterias etc..

Instead of buying 3 or 4 apples at the Grocery store, buy an entire box of for $20..

$14 today got me a big ass thing of kale, big bag of carrots, 10 apples, ginger, 4 cucumbers and a giant stalk of celery. That's about enough juice for 3-4 days, not too shabby. Trick is to find reasonably priced produce though and if you're in the wrong area there's not a whole lot you can do.

We do have several asian grocery stores in the area but they only carry more exotic things, Nothing I would really want to juice. Ive never see a pear, apple, banana, or orange at them. Kinda SOL unless I go exploring, ill try to find a more ethnic part of town and hunt for produce.

I don't make money to waste it, I would never buy a 7 dollar beer, partly because id know I was getting ripped off and because I don't drink. I make my money to keep it. I know damn well apples don't cost 1.50-2.50 per apple so I refuse to pay it, that's the "idiot" price that they put out. At the end of the day if I am buying $7 beers and $2.50 apples I wouldn't have money for long.

Got my Omega Vert 350 today! Couldn't wait to try it. Problem is, we haven't gone to the grocery store to stock up yet. All I have is some apples, tomatoes and cucumbers.

Oh well....

Cut up the apples and started juicing

OMG, best apple juice I've ever tasted! Not sugary and syrupy like the shit from the store. The amount of juice that just a couple apples puts out is insane! I think I juiced about 8 apples, and had at least 2 cups of juice. About half reds and half greens. Was pleasantly surprised that the green apples weren't as sour as I expected. Mixed was good, shots of red and shots of green were good. It was all good.

So, then figured "let's clean the juicer and try the tomatoes and cukes". Threw the tomatoes in first and did a shot of that. Yum. Love tomatoes. Then added two whole cucumbers... mistake. Lot of juice, not much flavor. Kinda watery, and too cucumbery. I'm not a big fan of cukes, but I think if they were mixed with more tomatoes and some other stuff, they'd be really tasty.

Can't wait to hit the store and start juicing everything I can.

The fat man is AMPED to get healthy! Got a DR appt tomorrow so I can get a baseline. Taking blood, weight, height, the works. Then I'll go back after 30 days to get an update.
