So... this guy I know got a sweet 1 word .PRO domain name about a year ago (the kind that would go for millions if it was a .com). Funny thing is when he told me about it I was like "dot what??? Never heard of this extension. But whatever, it's probably another bullshit extension like .INFO and you won't be able to do shit with it"... Surprisingly though, the motherfucker built a website a few months ago and was able to rank it on 1st page for that 1 keyword in only a few weeks without too much SEO! That keyword has 1,600,000 exact matches per month so I can't even imagine how many daily hits he's getting!

This led me to think: damn there's all these new domain extensions coming out and I have no fucking clue! I subscribed to the ICANN newsletter but all I get from them is shitty news about their company.

How do you guys stay up to date with new domain extensions? Is there a mailing list or newsletter somewhere that is worth signing up to?

There are various "duh-mainer" related blogs and forums out there.
Domaining.com and DNforum just to start.

If he ranked a .pro with no backlinks, you could probably get a EMD.us and outrank him rather easily buying a few SBT services on here.

yeah except he got a 1 word (5 letter) domain, impossible to find in any extension, even .asia LOL ... funny thing is he got it at REG fee! It's a medical word so most people wouldn't even think about it. You gotta be quick buying these dictionary word domains. A lot of people are still fighting hardcore for the .coms, .nets and .orgs while there is "apparently" high value in some of the newer extensions.
