Need to setup a blog for the first time. Any real differences for a basic blog between Thesis and Genesis frameworks? On the surface it looks like Thesis might be better/easier to work with for simple sites (like what I'll be doing) and Genesis might be better for more complex sites. I'm sure either will work just fine for what I need, just curious what everyone thinks. The reviews I came across all seem so biased...

Thesis can be a pain until you're familiar with the hooks. If you decide to work with it, save yourself a shitload of headaches by grabbing Thesis OpenHook and referencing the Hooks reference guide.

I did a review of Thesis vs. Genesis head to head. I always tell people to go with Genesis for the pre-built designs, Thesis for minimalism (unless you can do your own designing).
Thesis vs Genesis – Comparing Premium WordPress Themes I've only done a little with Headway. I know someone who bought it because it is supposedly easier for first time WordPress users, but she was having a very difficult time even getting basic things done with it. |

My OPINION is that you should take a little bit of time out of your day and read a few chapters from a wordpress site building book, and if you cant get your hands on one there is a lot of free content online.
I use to ask people to help me tweak wordpress sites to the way that I want them because I didn't know how to add two simple words to a specific area. Now it's easy shit. Oh, and i started out using the thesis theme. Pce |

Nothing like the native Twenty Eleven theme. It's light, fast and simple. Easy to edit in the back-end too. I feel like most themes today are overcomplicating things, adding a ton of options that we don't give a shit about. If I need anything custom I'll modify it in the back-end myself.

Why the hate on KristiH? The blog post is long and helpful and a link never hurt anyone.
Hoep she contributes more, but Kristi, maybe write some more detailed answers here to ease into things. ::emp::

Genesis
- Solid code that is very well supported. - Lots of great themes that are very adjustable. - Large community of people that are building cool things to work within the framework. - When I used thesis, I spent too much time screwing with the theme. Time needed elsewhere in the project. If you want the full story, see the blog post by KristiH above. I agree with most everything in it. |

Thesis is a piece of shit unless you're a developer. And even then it takes too much time to sort out the stupid fucking way they designed it. It's great if you want a fast theme that looks like every other thesis theme on the interwebz. By the time you have something that looks halfway presentable it's bloated and slow as shit. You may as well have spent all that time coding a theme from scratch and selling that motherfucker.
The only redeeming quality Thesis had was it's built in SEO boxes. The masses all ohhed and awwed becasue chris put some fucking meta boxes in it. CongratuFUCKINGlations. And it hasn't been updated in over a year, "but don't worry ya'll the SUPER DUPER THESIS 2.0 will be out soon" ~ Chris P circa last fucking January 2011 or earlier. "Hey hopefully Thesis 2.0 will be in a BETA by next month" ~ Chris P circa a couple of days ago. In other words, go with something else, really go with pretty much anything else. At least they're supported. Thesis 2.0 is the DUKENUKEM FOREVER of Wordpress themes. Just Vapor that shit already. And to top it off Chris comes off as a total douche in every interview he gives. He's a used car salesman that keeps company (and used to run a company) with other douches like SUPER DUPER PROBLOGGER Brian Clark for fucks sake. Not hatin', just tellin' it like it is. I give him props for make a boatload of cash, but that doesn't mean he's any less of a douchey flake. |
