Depends what you need them for. I've tried a ton for coding projects, went through a ton and didn't find even 1 that was worth keeping. Europe, exUSSR, US coders are mostly good. Worked with one really good team in China as well.
Yet, if its a simple task or a seo related one, such as link building, there are quite a few good ones in that part of the world who can deliver on time as promised or even beat your expectations. |

Depends for what. If I want native level English content I would hire someone for America/Canada/etc. If I wanted some simple SEO work done I would hire people from Indian or other low income countries.
This is how I do it: America/1st world countries = English articles/etc Russia/Bulgaria/eastern Europe = Programming/design India = SEO/VA/easy stuff More complex things require more complex explanations so it's easier to explain something to someone from America/Russia than to someone in Indian. |

I hired a bangladeshi guy once to do some work. Halfway through the job he disappeared. So I dispute it on paypal, and he sends me an email saying hes in the hospital and he needs the money for his medical bills. I figured if he could type that email he could finish my work so I didn't remove the dispute and eventually received the finished product a week later, finally removing the dispute after receiving it.
tl;dr Never working with someone from Bangladesh again. lol csb |

Whoever you hire, have a spec describing the quality of work, delivery steps and timelines for each one. When I had time to look for people, I had about 10 different people work on one of the projects, one after another. Give a few days, check the code(work), if not by the spec - they are not getting paid. Move on to the next. If possible, try to pay only after the whole project is done. I had some disappear once they get paid after the first delivery step.

I've had the best luck with Indians in the VA department, as long as you give them clear instructions (and templates whenever writing is involved) they tend to be reliable.
For some reason I'm prejudiced when it comes to coding and development though, I just don't trust foreign coders I guess. I'm not sure why, maybe I should try some Asians and see how it goes.

I don't give a shit if somebody is mexican, african, phillipino, australian, american or some other country - I give a shit if they produce what I want them to produce. I've hired some lazy ass Americans and I've hired some lazy ass Africans as well, I've also hired some great people from both those places as well. |

It's natural to be racist, it comes from a time when other tribes would bust in an try to take the women and the fucking food. Of course, we've out grown the need for such wariness but you can't blame people for being afraid of what they don't know and relying on their instincts.
Same way with the way our bodies hold onto fat etc.. we've out grown all that shit but it's still human nature to hate the darkie who comes to steal women and food and kill children. Of course, we're trying to do the same shit to his tribe :P |

So is everyone hiring on ODesk? When I was hiring a lot I used onlinejobs.ph They charge to post but it was worth it when I was doing volume hiring. Filis are great employees, but yeah they disappear a lot and their country seems to get hit by a storm 3 days a week and their internet connections suck, but besides that they are great

I don't care from where the worker is as long as he/she does the things i got them to do, good and in a timely fashion.. If they do it good then they will get work from me for a long time to come..
I had some problems with some indiands, some filipinos and many other nationalities, but on the other hand i also have regular workers from many of these countries.. It just depends on a case by case basis.. |

i would like to meet some indians to work for us.
we currently have people in china and turkey...did phillipines first, would hire again there as well...a friend of mine has an outsourcing company there, they live on site, and micro manage as much as possible...that is how you really do it, you have to move there.

Come on, you can not say that these three nations do not have any qualified workers...
Its a cultural thing, and its also a level of frustration that is crazy for some people. I did have some workers from India and Pakistan pull off disappearing acts only to come back a month later (and a month late) to give me all kind of insane excuses, however I worked with enough qualified and professionals from all three nationalities. |

Problem with Indians is that the good Indians are way more expensive than what you would normally pay. What you get are the leftovers, the bottom of the pyramid as we call it, who are working from cyber cafes maybe.
And India is bloody 1 Billion plus people. So you will get shit as well as Gold. If you doubt Indian, visit the silicon valley. They serve Dosas at the ebay cafeteria...by the thousands.. You have to know how to hire Indians... India is very complex . Maybe I will have some St Xavier's Graduate from Kolkata write an eBook on how to hire Indian workers and kill it on Clickbank..
